Monday Memo No. 59
Organization, hydration, photoaging, oh my!
I know I’m super late to the party on this one, but BIG NEWS: I’m a packing cube person now. In packing my hospital bag and trying to organize my things, baby things, all the things, I’ve found that hands down the best way to do it is by playing suitcase Tetris with these genius cubes. Packing cubes are organizational pouches that deliver on their promise of keeping you organized while away from home. However, finding the right cubes isn't the easiest. In my quest to find the best options, I was shocked to find out that so many of the highest rated cubes were actually completely opaque which was super counter-intuitive to me. I figured that packing cubes would need to be see-through so that we can easily know what’s inside, but apparently much of the internet disagrees with me. I don't want to memorize a color-coding system and I definitely don't want to have to open up eight different cubes to figure out what's inside, so I chose these packing cubes with transparent mesh tops that allow me to get a quick look at what I’m dealing with in each one, and I couldn't be happier with my selection. They're virtually weightless (so they don't add to your luggage weight limit), come in so many colors (I got cream), and you’ll see that in each set there’s one that does not have a transparent panel, so that’s the one I’ll be using for dirty laundry—definitely not something I need eyes on, ever.
File this under things I wish I knew about earlier in my pregnancy. My friend Jess recently introduced me to electrolyte drinks. When you’re dehydrated, your body suffers from a loss of water and electrolytes, and it’s important that you replenish what your body has lost—because we all know how not-amazing dehydration feels (not to mention the effects on our skin and overall health). These Basis Low Sugar Electrolyte Drinks put back what your body loses after a big workout (or extreme morning sickness during pregnancy) without adding in tons of sugar that can typically be found in other electrolyte sports drinks. It was formulated based on recommendations from the World Health Organization, and contains very basic, pronounce-able ingredients so you know you’re getting hydrated without any other unnecessary stuff in your drink.
Last week, I shared with everyone that I’ve been testing this Barcelona-based brand, ISDIN, over the past few months. I have really loved the results, and I’m ready to give it the Monday Memo stamp of approval. (There’s no literal stamp, though I’m considering having one made.) The brand’s expertise lies in treating the effects of photoaging, which is the premature aging of the skin caused by repeated exposure to ultraviolet radiation. Until recently, this brand had only been available through dermatologists and after I posted about it to Instagram, the DMs flew in praising the brand, and sharing success stories. Clearly we feel similarly passionate and agree that we need to take our love far and wide. In addition to my own positive experience, I also loved hearing how many of you were turned onto this brand by your dermatologist—which always boosts confidence in a product line. I’ve tested many of their products, and so far my favorites include: the Eryfotona mineral sunscreen, the Flavo-C Ultraglican Anti-Aging Serum Ampoules, and the Melatonik Night Serum.
File this under "things Mary added to cart with lightning speed." This bag hits Net-A-Porter today, and I’m absolutely obsessed. If you haven’t checked out The Volon yet, this interior-design influenced brand is all about sleek structure (my love language, when it comes to handbags), with some of the most beautiful chains and closures I’ve seen.
Not all reusable grocery totes are alike. Some were actually made... wait for it... for groceries. This set of three was specifically designed to make your Trader Joe’s haul a more productive, comfortable one, while having the added benefit of being kind to the planet, too. The real genius here: The walls of these bags are actually made with recycled cardboard, so they stay open for loading/unloading. Unlike that free tote you got at a conference last month, these guys were made with groceries in mind. Have you ever seen a fully five-star rating on Amazon before? These bags have one. I’m impressed.
Yep, this is a real thing that exists. Friends is leaving Netflix soon, and if you’re stressed about it, Pottery Barn has found a way to keep your pals close at all times. Could I BE more obsessed with everything? My standout favorites include this epic coffee table and the sweetest tea towels ever, but check out the whole collection. It really takes you back.
Speaking of friends, fans of classic style, affordable style, or all of the above are about to be thrilled. My friend Rachel Parcell’s latest drop has just arrived at Nordstrom! Everything feels so fresh and wearable, it’s the perfect cure for closet boredom. I purchased (and adore) this dress, but I’m also wistfully waiting for the waistline to wear this dress, too. Maybe I should order it for post-baby days? Hmm...
There’s nothing sadder than a strawberry gone bad. All of the gorgeous summer produce you’re picking up at farmer’s markets looks so enticing, until you realize you have to actually eat it all before it passes its prime. That’s where these smart produce savers come in. They extend the life of your produce (they really work—notice the reviews) thereby removing the pressure on you to consume an entire container of blueberries in one sitting. Not that that doesn’t sound like fun, too.
Yep, hello, are you listening? TEN DOLLARS. You know those end-of-summer sales where brands let go of all those fun, patio-perfect pieces for an absolute song? That’s what this is. All the ridiculously cute Baublebar earrings, bangles, and more that you’ve been coveting on other people’s ears and wrists all summer are now just ten dollars, if you hurry. So hurry. As in right now.
