For International Travel, I didn’t use the device you recommended, but a similar one from another “wifi device rental agency” that was also $10 a day. It may have been the location we picked (Iceland), but we weren’t able to connect to wifi most of the time due to the signal connection to the device from the…satellites? Magic wifi space portals? Either way, I was pretty disappointed with it, and it was one more thing to carry around and charge all the time.
I say all that to say – for my next trip overseas, I found out that Verizon lets you roam internationally for $10 a day. While it’s not unlimited data, it was enough for me to use GoogleMaps and Instagram all day until I could get back to my hotel each night. It was also nice to not have to babysit a rented device and ship it back when I was done.
Again, Paris/London (where I used Verizon) and Iceland (wifi hotspot) might be a bad test case due to location-based connectivity, but it’s definitely a good option to try! (Also, I’m not a corporate schill for Verizon lol – I’m sure most other mobile carriers offer similar options)
Yes, LOVE the $10 Verizon international plan! I use that as well every trip. For work, however, I often require additional wifi service for my laptop/tablet etc., so also need a wifi device and highly recommend the devices mentioned above. However, I agree, in remote areas of the world where there isn’t strong coverage of any kind, you may have difficulty. In western Europe, the above device is fantastic!
I saw Come From Away last week in London and it was AMAZING. I couldn’t believe it hasn’t gotten more hype. Absolutely recommend to everyone, such a funny and touching show.
