Monday Memo No. 151
Another Monday, another turtleneck that’s stolen my heart.
If you saw my Coastal Granny: Fall Edition video, you know that turtleneck season is upon us and there is virtually nothing more important to me in life than a good turtleneck. Much to my delight, I recently discovered this beauty from Fallon & Ava which is the mullet of turtlenecks: business in front, party bow in the back. They’ve upgraded the classic, fitted black turtleneck with a ribbon tie at the nape of the neck and it is perfection. Not only is it a stunning statement piece, but for every purchase, Fallon & Ava will donate a turtleneck to a woman at The Dwelling Place shelter in New York.
If you've been wondering how Hailey Bieber achieves the shiniest, frizz-free hair that looks fresh from the salon it's because... she is likely always fresh from the salon. HOWEVER, she also attributes her flawless mane to this Spiraling Protein Smoothing Spray from Good Behavior. This best-selling formula strengthens and nourishes hair, protects it from heat and humidity and makes your hair silky without weighing it down, if you can BELIEB it. Sorry, I’ll see myself out.
Toys for girls have pretty much been a Venn diagram of playing princess or mommy since the 1950s. That’s why Kristel Bell decided to make dolls that are science, tech, engineering and math-centric. For example, Codie the Coder, has a cool coder outfit and speaks over 75 educational coding-related phrases including fun sound effects and singalong jingles. By exposing young girls to STEM, these Surprise Powerz Dolls are equipping girls with confidence in those areas in the rare case that they grow up and don’t become princesses.
The Denim Madeline Midi Dress from Hyacinth House is everything the brand exemplifies: classic, feminine and fun. It has the perfect silhouette and comes in an unexpected shade of rosy pink. This dress has perfectly puffed sleeves, brushed gold buttons down the front and a pleated waist and I will be pairing it with knee-high brown boots ALL fall. #Barbiecore isn’t going anywhere.
Is there anything better than curling up on the couch with a mug of hot coffee and a book (or movie) when the weather cools off? One of the most crucial elements in a thoroughly cozy curl-up is your blanket choice and this Velvet Moss Throw from John Robshaw is a perfect one. It’s a luxuriously soft, hand quilted velvet that feels like a warm hug on cold days. It's also an easy way to transition your decor to the cold-weather months. Also explore their matching velvet pillows.
It’s official: the Vice Lip Bond Glossy Liquid Lipstick is my new favorite long-lasting lip color. It wears like the U.S. Postal Service motto: neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays this lipstick from from the swift completion of its appointed rounds. And, you can add food, drink or snuggly toddlers to that list. Here's why it's my favorite: it’s not drying! Like most of the liquid lipsticks we know and (sort of) love, it has a super hydrated finish—in fact, it's called “glossy” and has a subtle shine without looking wet. In twelve smudge-proof shades, Urban Decay has a true lipstick hit. My favorite everyday color is Text 'Em (the absolute perfect shade of nudey-pink) and Unbreakable (a red power lip perfect for fall and holiday season).
I have more Dudley Stephens fleeces than I care to admit and yet it still feels like I don't have enough? They are truly the most comfortable, delicious pieces to wear all fall and winter. It's the first thing I reach for when throwing something on for a morning park run or school drop off. Recently, I got the Lafayette Vest in Camel and am not-at-all shocked by how much I’ve already worn it. This longline Sherpa fleece is the most comfortable fall topper and it also layers beautifully under your favorite winter coat for extra warmth.
Juliska and Veronica Beard have come together for this dinnerware collaboration inspired by the colors and patterns of the Iberian Coast and as they say in Spain, estoy enamorado. I’m going to have to throw a Thanksgiving dinner and Friendsgiving dinner in order to feature both these Bohemian Vine Party Plates (your link was a double of the whole collection link) and these Jardins du Monde Green Party Plates because I’m that thankful for this collab.
If you’re in the market for outerwear that is gorgeous, exceptional quality, unbelievably warmth, and lasts you season after season, my forever coat recommendation is Mackage. I’ve shared several Mackage coats over the years but the most recent addition to my collection is their Mylah Down Floral Puffer Jacket. Did I also get my minis the matching Girl's Jesse Floral Hooded Down Jackets? Obviously, yes. And I’m just now realizing that they make the same floral puffer in a belted vest so you can truly collect them all.
It’s officially boot season, which means it’s time to face our sock collections head on. If — like me — you want a fun, high-quality refresh, check out all the playful patterns Hansel from Basel has to offer. These are the styles that are currently in my shopping cart: the Caddie Sheer Crew, Love Cashmere Crew, Nautical Stripe Crew, and Martha Crew.
Uniqlo is a haven of affordable basics for every season and they’re nailing winter with this Ultra Light Down Jacket. It’s soft, water-repellent, packable and the cropped, boxy silhouette looks great with skirts or pants. It comes in a DOZEN different colors and Uniqlo sells it with its own carrying bag, so you can stow it away in a tiny corner of your suitcase.
Listen, this earbud cleaning putty isn’t the most glamorous recommendation I’ve gotten from @seeannajane but it might be the most effective! You just press your earbuds or headphones against one of these squares so the putty gets in all the nooks and crannies and when you peel it away, it takes all the dirt and gross gunk with it. It’ll keep your electronics clean and give your earbuds better airflow and sound quality.
Even if you don’t play golf, this Cashmere Raglan Birdie Sweater from Tory Burch will make you want to take up the sport. It’s made from pure cashmere and comes in four colors: Lemon Glow, New Ivory, Gold Heather, and my favorite, Blue Wash Heather, which is currently 50% off. I'd say that's a hole in one but you’re here for the sweater recs, not the sports metaphors.
These jigsaw puzzles from Areaware are MY OBSESSION. At only 70-pieces, you won’t have to clear off the dining room table and reserve three weeks to complete it like you would a major puzzle. These can be completed in under an hour and are therefore like the "wordle" of the puzzle world. They’re good for ages six and up and come in six delicious food shapes like a Chicago Hot Dog or Cupcake. A great gift!
Fall and winter outfits often involve a melange of neutral layers, so having this woven bag in your closet is the perfect way to add some seasonal spice. With alternating stripes of navy, caramel brown and red, the bag will go with absolutely every outfit and is the perfect size bag to hold all your essentials. You can even detach the strap and carry it as a clutch.
This non-dairy frozen fruit soft serve maker is so quick and easy to use, it's entirely worthy of a little extra counter space. Within minutes you can turn frozen fruit into smooth sorbet. The maker is easy to clean and comes with a booklet of 72 recipes for pies, parfaits and ice cream. Your kids think they're having an indulgent dessert and you're giving the whole family their daily dose of fruit.
Are we all stocking up on fall fashion from Tyler Böe? I recently snagged a ton of fall pieces including this gorgeous cableknit in Deep Marigold, this jacket in Spruce and this mineral wash sweater in Paprika. Last Friday, I wore this blazer while traveling and am not sure I've ever gotten so many questions about a clothing item. It's now sold out, but add your name to the waitlist as a restock is coming!
I’ve shared Amy's Gourmet Apples in the past, but it bears reminding that if you need a gift this fall, sending an Amy’s apple is always a phenomenal idea. They’re so easy to ship (I can’t even count how many I’ve shipped over the years) and they arrive as fresh and delicious as ever. My all-time favorite flavor is this peanut butter version but take a scroll through them all, and don’t forget about the seasonal flavors. There is truly nothing more delicious on earth.
This is just a friendly reminder that the Outnet is a goldmine of luxury discount shopping. I have found countless absolutely classic pieces from my favorite designers there over the years at up to 70% off. I have Oscar De La Renta and Carolina Herrera bookmarked and most recently, I scored this absolutely stunning jacket from Oscar De La Renta at 55% off. Keep their New Arrivals section saved in your browser as the best items go FAST.
