In warmer months especially, they’re a nice departure from the staid dress pants that you (and I) usually gravitate towards when dressing for work. Above the waist today, I’m featuring this beautiful silk jacket and silk tank which will serve as your absolute best friends if you need to be covered up during business hours but live in a place that is brutally hot this time of year. The result is a very formal ensemble, with comfort and breathability galore. Take that, August.P.S. While I’d never suggest wearing this tank by itself in the office, it’s the perfect thing to wear underneath a blazer (or, ahem, adorable silk jacket) that you can sport alone at happy hour. It keeps you cool during the day, and keeps you cool at drinks. See what I did there? Yeah, it’s been a long day.Shop the Post: -
Casual Friday: Double Dots
Shot by Alexander Scott HarrisBackpack: c/o Sole Society | Skirt: Topshop (identical here and more below) | Shirt: J. Crew (old but similar here, here and love this similar one in floral print) | Shoes: Nine West c/o T.J. Maxx | Sunglasses: Karen WalkerAfter Wednesday’s post where I dressed up some of my Sole Society favorites, today is a bit more relaxed for summer Friday at the office with this chambray shirt, sandals and backpack. After two Casual Fridays in a row here, you can see that I’m on board with the backpack trend. The fanny pack is going to take a second (or two) longer to grow on me, but this backpack? This I can do. P.S. Sandals aren’t appropriate at some offices (even on Casual Fridays) so if that’s the case for you, I’d pair an outfit like this with these pumps or these flats.Shop the Post:More Sole Society Favorites:This post is sponsored by Sole Society. Lasers and Tassels
Shot by Alexander Scott HarrisBlazer: BB Dakota c/o T.J. My love for their shoes, bags, and accessories is real, and my love for their confoundingly low price points (without sacrificing quality) is deep. Today, the love affair continues with this black bag and these perforated d’orsay flats that are sleek and basic enough to wear when you need to look presentable and (dare I say) professional, but detailed and on-trend enough to make you feel like you still have a sartorial soul distinguishable from the corporate drones with whom you share a daily soul-crushing subway ride. As you can see, the flats have laser-cut perforations that add a little extra oomph and make them easily dressed up or down for work or play, respectively. And, let’s be real. Anything with “laser” in the description is a likely win in my book. Mostly this applies to lasers of the tag, printer, lightsaber or James Bond variety, but I’m going go ahead and throw footwear onto that pile as well. Similarly, this black shoulder bag is not only deliciously bucket-y and braided in style, but also hasa tasselTWO TASSELS on the front flap to cap it all off. Why is this a good thing? Literally no idea. I just know that I love tassels so much. So so much.Shop the Post:More Sole Society Favorites:This post is sponsored by Sole Society. Birk to Work
Shot by Alexander Scott HarrisSkirt: c/o Oasis (unfortunately sold out in blue, but love this black and white version and similar blue versions here and here) | Shirt: c/o Jones New York | Pumps: Nine West (sold out but love these ones and these ones) | Sandals: Birkenstock | Necklace: J. Crew (love this similar more subtle one and also love this similar one) | Watch: c/o Timex | Bracelet: J. Crew | Rings: Kathy Kamei and House of Harlow | Sunglasses: Karen Walker | Earrings: Juliet & Company | Polish: Hands – Essie (Sand Tropez/Blanc) and Toes – Essie (Fiji) | Lips: Neutrogena (Rich Raisin)A couple of weeks ago, I shared my hot weather styling tips here. As we stare down the barrel of what is always a brutally hot August (certainly in NYC), those warm weather survival tools are as important as ever. For me, the heat is especially brutal on my feet (read: Swollen and Sweaty, the Sub-Ankle Scandal) so ditching pumps for the heavenly footbeds of Birks is among my favorite moments of the day. While they’re likely not going to work in the office, these Birkenstocks are about as comfortable as it gets when braving the summer heat on your commute to work. And, it doesn’t hurt that the 90s favorites are back in a big way. Who says being trendy can’t also be practical? No one. Okay, other than my dad. Literally no one else.Shop the Post:
