    NYC Restaurant Favorite: Loring Place

Loring Place opened in NYC last May and it’s quickly become one of our absolute favorites in the village.  It’s no surprise since chef Dan Kluger hails from ABC Kitchen and ABC Cocina but if you go, don’t miss the baked ricotta and roasted kabocha squash.

    Blue Apron

Rich and I just got our first few deliveries of Blue Apron and I can’t even begin to describe HOW MUCH WE LOVE IT SO FAR.  We’re four weeks in and I can’t imagine going back.  Excellent quality food, generous portions, healthy options, and absolutely delicious.  Living the start-up life in NYC means no time to go grocery shopping and even less time to prep and plan meals.  Blue Apron has been our savior.  If you sign up HERE, you can get $30 Off Your First Blue Apron Order (which equates to your first three meals free).  HIGHLY recommend.

    Lily’s Chocolate

I’m a completely hopeless sugar addict.  I’m telling you, I can park away sweets like nobody’s business, and chocolate is a particular weakness.  HOWEVER, I’ve been (reluctantly) learning more and more about the horrendous effects sugar has on our bodies, and slowly attempting to cut back.  Enter Lily’s chocolate.  If you’re unfamiliar, Lily’s chocolate is a company that makes stevia-sweetened low-calorie chocolate that’s certified gluten free.  They have tons of different chocolate chips and bars, but if you’re skeptical, I dare you to try a salted almond bar and tell me you don’t love it.  SO delicious and completely sugar…

    Favorite Quinoa Bowl Recipe

We eat quite a lot of quinoa in our house and are always making big bowls of it with favorite roasted veggies and other accoutrements.  However, thanks to Liz Adams, I’ve found the holy grail quinoa bowl recipe.  TRUST.  My only preferred tweak is goat cheese instead of feta.  I made extra of everything last weekend and it was perfect to refrigerate and grab throughout the week for lunch.  SO. GOOD.

    My Breakfast MVP

I’m always surprised by how frequently I get asked what I eat for breakfast.  Funny enough, I always thought my go-to breakfast was pretty unusual, but in the last several months I’ve been seeing it pop up everywhere—bloggers, celebrities, you name it—everyone is obsessed with GG Scandinavian Crispbread.  I discovered these bread-cracker hybrids when I was living in Copenhagen for a semester in college and many of the Danish girls I lived with ate them every morning.  They’re low calorie, low carb, super high in fiber and while they’re about as bland as cardboard on their own, they are an…

The Nespresso Machine I Use Every Morning

I’ve had the Nespresso Vertuo Coffee and Espresso maker for two years and can’t possibly think of every owning anything else.  I’ve tried tons of other coffee makers in the past—french presses, Bialettis, Keurig, the list goes on—but nothing compares to this one.  This particular model can make either espresso or coffee and nothing beats the quality.  In fact, in the mornings, I have no desire to stop at Starbucks or any number of amazing coffee shops on my walk to the office because the iced lattes I can make with my Nespresso are just as good (if not better). …

    Chef’s Table: Pastry

The Netflix series Chef’s Table is easily one of my all-time favorites.  If you haven’t watched the series, you’re in for a binge-worthy delight.  The series takes you inside the minds of the world’s best chefs and culinary stars who are revolutionizing the way we eat.  The fourth season just came out and much to my sugar-addicted delight, the entire season is dedicated specifically to pastry chefs.  THE BEST.

The Best Croissants in New York City

As you may have gathered from my instagram last week, Rich and I just got back from a quick work trip to Paris where we basically ate nothing but croissants for four days.  To alleviate the withdrawal symptoms we’ve been experiencing since returning to NYC, we’ve made more than one run to our favorite neighborhood bakery—Arcade Bakery—which just so happens to make the hands-down BEST croissants in New York City.  You don’t have to just take my word for it, The Infatuation and a whole host of other bonafide foodies agree.  They’re only open on weekdays and are (strangely) located…

    Glowing Green Smoothie

A girlfriend recently got me onto this smoothie recipe which I’ve been making constantly the last few months with our Vitamix.  Not only are the health benefits phenomenal, but if you read more about it here, Kimberly Snyder aptly points out the important nutritional value of blended smoothies as well: Blending helps make greens’ full spectrum of nutrition readily available to the body.  Nutrients are encased inside plant cells and getting their benefits requires these cells’ walls to be ruptured. Greens need to be worked down to a creamy consistency, but most people simply don’t chew that much!  Blending addresses…
