    The Bridgerton Book Series

Whelp, since the entire world is now obsessed with Netflix’s Bridgerton, I thought it might be pertinent to let you know that the series is actually based on a book. There are EIGHT of them, so if you need more period drama, you’ve got some great reading ahead of you.

    Rediscover Your Lunch Break

LOL lunch breaks, what are those? Unless I’m attending a (pre-pandemic) meeting at a restaurant, I honestly haven’t taken a real lunch “break” maybe ever. This… is not good. Breaks are a healthy and productive part of your day. If you’re looking to start the New Year with more productivity and purpose, I recommend rediscovering your lunch break with this book because the physical and mental break gives you the downtime you need to recharge and tackle the rest of the workday more efficiently.

Children’s Books to Support Conversations on Race, Racism and Resistance

As a parent, I know that conversations about race must start in the home. One important way to make sure you’re raising children in an anti-racist environment is to be intentional about what they’re exposed to everyday. The toys they play with, the books they read, the shows they watch, the music they hear. To start, I’ve been researching children’s books, and have found the Coretta Scott King award winner list as well as this list to be a helpful starting point. I’m also following @theconsciouskid on instagram who has an excellent book list as well available on their patreon…

    Baking Gold

I’m baking, you’re baking, everyone’s baking! If you’re feeling like you need to add some creativity and skill to your mix, pun definitely intended, Baking Gold by pastry chef Jami Curl is genius. The book is based on the idea that you can be endlessly, culinarily creative with just three doughs, two batters, and one “magic mix.” Also this book relies heavily on the use of sprinkles and decoration, so… I’m sold?

    American Royals

This book is getting lots of literary attention everywhere, but if you haven’t read it, American Royals is a fantastic YA novel by my friend Katharine McGee. The book imagines a world in which George Washington becomes monarch after the Revolutionary War instead of President. Fast forward to present day and the book follows the young royals of the “House of Washington” in a Downton Abbey meets Crazy Rich Asians meets The Crown DELIGHT. A sequel is in the works already and Netflix needs to pick it up stat because I simply must binge watch this.

    Great Book Recommendations

I know we start summer super jazzed about all those neon and pastel book covers we have sitting in our beach bags ready to go, but by August our reading lists have gone stale.  That’s why I’m thrilled my friend Grace of The Stripe just released her August reading list!  Her grading system is really refreshing and she gives real recommendations (if not actual commands) when she thinks a book is worth devoting towel-time to.
