Monday Memo No. 104
Great gifts, great sales, and a few things on my must-watch list. Also CHOCOLATE CROISSANTS.
Workwear fanatics, you already know the glory that is M.M.LaFleur. Their cult following is well-known and well-earned because they're a brand that is made for working women, by working women. Each high quality, thoughtfully-made garment is as practical as it is polished and made to last. But Mary, we're in a pandemic. I'm not wearing the same kind of workwear that I was nine months ago! I know. And, a quick spin through M.M.LaFleur's new arrivals section will show you that they know, too. We're talking luxe, multi-tasking fabrics that move without sacrificing that signature, professional polish. I'm currently wearing this jardigan (a genius hybrid jacket/cardigan) and pants set which looks super professional on a zoom call, but still let's me comfortably run after my toddler at the park. Next on my list? This cashmere hoodie and matching jogger. DELISH. Also! M.M.Lafleur is rewarding people for getting out to vote by offering 50% off a gorgeous selection of styles (everything from cozy Merino wool sweaters to polished-yet-comfy pants). Have you registered to vote? Encouraged others to do the same? See their styles, and use the promo code MARYREADYTOVOTE2020 at checkout to redeem your 50% off.
Many of you told me that you shared my love of the classic Daphne Du Maurier gothic novel when I mentioned re-reading it last year. Now, we all get to watch Netflix’s adaptation of the 1940 Hitchcock classic, Rebecca, with a stellar cast that includes so many of my British favorites (I’m mildly obsessed with Keeley Hawes). Now, if you are a devotee of either the book or the 1940 film with Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine, try to avoid the comparison game and approach it with an open mind. This version is a dramatic departure in many ways, particularly in style and character development (Maxim is basically a completely different character). Just enjoy it for what it is.
I have one recipe, and one recipe only that I can claim as truly “mine.” It is this chili, and this chili is GOOD (if I do say so myself). If you’re freezing and maybe also just a little bit in need of a one-pot dinner solution, I can’t recommend my recipe enough. Make a giant pot and freeze half of it in small containers so you can enjoy throughout the season.
Those who appreciate a metallic decor accent will be THRILLED to know that Smeg now makes its classic kettle in COPPER. I know, none of us expected our kettle to be the most stunning item in the kitchen but here we are. I have to keep her far away from the Vitamix, who gets jealous easily. But, also, if you’ve never owned an electric kettle, you’re in for a treat.
We need to expand what we talk about when we talk about matching loungewear sets. Case in point: This cozy Asos number. This knit set consists of a wrap peplum sweater (as chic as lounge gets) and a straight leg pant that are practically begging you to not leave the house all day. And yet, I feel like I wouldn’t hate wearing this out somewhere either. You know, if you going out were a thing.
Do you even need my thoughts here? I feel like we know each other well enough and you’ve already clicked the link. I’m speaking into the void right now, aren't I? For anyone left still reading, know that I’m screaming the following sentence: Williams Sonoma sells ready-to-bake pain au chocolat and it is my life’s purpose to tell everyone that they exist. I mean, I want to say they’re the ultimate holiday gift but who could purchase these and NOT fill their own homes with the scent of freshly baked chocolate croissants?? THIS is the pastry shortcut I’ve needed all my life.
Friends, allow me to introduce you to my new favorite concealer by Clé de Peau Beauté. If you’re looking for a long-lasting, high-coverage concealer that looks super natural and doesn’t crease, it's this one. I absolutely love the formula and the fact that it includes SPF 25. This product is slightly pricey, but that's because a little goes a long way and will last you for much longer than other concealers. Highly recommend.
Oh yes my friends, faux leather comes in WAY more than just leggings. I recently purchased these faux leather joggers because look how cool they are. If your comfywear has a tendency to make you miss your actual, you know, sense of style, these joggers are a great way to feel like your stylish self, even in 2020.
Over the weekend, I shared these absolutely jaw-dropping tea glasses on instastories and they continue to populate my every waking thought. I have never seen their equal in terms of design and can not WAIT to entertain with them. They’re a gorgeous gift for anyone in your life who cherishes a good cup of tea, and an amazing moment in design. Truly works of art.
It’s time for everyone to join Team Teal. While I love a luxurious bath soak as much as the next person with a bathtub, sometimes the most affordable, most classic go-to options really are the best. Please note the FIFTEEN THOUSAND ratings on this product, and then slip into a foamy, calming epsom salt bath scented with chamomile before bed. You are, indeed, welcome.
It’s rare that I see a boot as classic and constant as the Hunter wellington go on sale, so I obviously had to tell you what’s happening right this minute. Zappos currently has these boots marked down by 49%! That is a lot. Typically you only find sales this significant on trendier shoes that come and go—for a classic like this to be this affordable, it’s a big deal. (Literally.)
I cannot say enough about my love for this brow gel. Such a simple thing, but when you need it to work, you need it to work, and I know all of us need to get our Zoom-faces on quickly and reliably these days. It really doesn’t get better than Benefit’s Gimme Brow, a volumizing formula that is a fan favorite, with ratings to prove it.
Is there anything better than having something in your Netflix queue that you’re SO excited to watch? The Queen’s Gambit is that for me. It’s the story of a young girl in a 1950s orphanage that discovers she has SERIOUS skills when it comes to chess. Where’s my popcorn.
This is one of those amazing products where everything you need to know is in the name. The Try The World Food Subscription is exactly that, a subscription box with a different destination as a theme each month. You’ll receive so many enticing food items that let you sample the cuisine of a place we can’t exactly travel to right now. This makes an amazing gift for the world traveler or foodie in your life but I can't wait to break into this box all on my own.
