  • Florals? For Spring?

    Florals? For Spring?

March is the perfect time to round up fresh spring florals for the upcoming warm temperatures of spring. (They’re coming, right? RIGHT??) So before the month goes out like a lamb, I wanted to share the best takes on flowers you don’t have to actually water that I’ve seen out in the fashion ether thus far. If this crop (pun intended) is any indication, we are in for a very, very sweet spring.

Here, I’m wearing a Carolina Herrera’s V-Neck Floral-Print Dress. I’m going to level with you here: this is a pricey item. And if you want to wear it, absolutely go for it. But if this piece makes you feel like maybe it should also come with a royal investiture, you really don’t have to worry, there are so many more floral moments at all price ranges to shop below. Also…this is essentially the first time we’re talking spring on Memorandum in 2019—we have a lot to look forward to.

I know we’re all currently sitting in chunky cardigans, second-screening Netflix and quietly grumbling to ourselves every time the heater clicks on. But there’s hope my friends, oh yes there is. Eventually it’s going to be warm again, our legs will see the light of day again, and all those gorgeous florals will hang in our closets again, like they always do. Until then, shop spring until you feel spring—that’s my plan.

Peep the round-up of my favorite florals at the bottom of this post!!  How dreamy is this one?!

  • Not Your Business School’s Black Suit

Not Your Business School’s Black Suit

This suit, which is perfectly at home in 2019, did not fall from heaven as one might expect. Instead, it comes to us from Rachel Zoe. My friend who happens to have a black belt (no pun intended) in creating perfect—dare I say—iconic suits.  Sometimes I wish she could just move in with us and run my professional wardrobe entirely. Unfortunately I haven’t had the chance to run this idea by her yet. Stay tuned.

    LAURA LOMBARDI

Gold-Tone Hoop Earrings (sold out, similar style HERE)

The grosgrain-trimmed satin blazer and matching wide-leg pants team up to form an unstoppable duo in the shape of a modern, ridiculously chic suit. Is it just me, or did this suit somehow pull off polish and pajamas at the same time?  Actually, no. The only real pajama vibe you get is when you put them on. You will immediately feel so comfortable. You’ll start to wonder whether your afternoon conference call could be canceled in lieu of a little cat nap.  Not to say this suit makes you feel sleepy—it’s dripping with take-over-the-world power suit vibes. I’m just saying that you’ll be so comfortable, you might forget to take it off before hopping in bed at night.

Wearing a suit that speaks to your personal style, is comfortable, and maybe even a little bit memorable too can only serve to build your confidence and help you put a professional face forward. Hint: This suit does that for me, which is why I wore it to speak at a conference a few weeks back and continue to wear it anytime I need a power play outfit that simultaneously feels like a soft hug.

It’s also a really elegant canvas for accessories and perhaps your favorite power shoe. I also love that taking it out after work doesn’t feel weird. You know, like sitting at dinner with friends in a standard suit might feel as if you should be counseling them on quarterly tax filings, but this look can flow from day to evening without blinking.

We’ve upgraded our phones at least five times since school—don’t forget to do the same with your arsenal of powersuits.

  • The Only Time Vacation Drama Is A Good Thing

The Only Time Vacation Drama Is A Good Thing
I would like to introduce you to the Silvia Tcherassi Miosotis Dress.

We’re best friends now. This isn’t a look for when you kind of just want to blend in and stroll somewhere at sunset (or maybe it is depending on the sunset). This is a look for special days, on special trips, with special people. The listed color is “mustard” but I’m getting marigold vibes here. Also, I don’t enjoy wearing hot dog toppings.  I can see this beauty at a beach or summer wedding. Possibly a baby or bridal shower. Or even a special date night, etc. Honestly, any happy occasion where you want to be a literal ray of sunshine.

    Styling tip with marigold:

Many people think they “can’t pull off this color” and it makes me v upset. YOU CAN. I promise. If you fear you look washed out or anemic (you don’t, but I know the demons in your head aren’t always on mute) try adding pops of red or pink in your lip color and/or accessories.  It can work wonders balancing the marigold and making you feel more alive.

    Let’s talk accessories.

Because the drama doesn’t stop at the seams (and why should it), I’ve accessorized with two finds. I intend to make these two beauties key features in my 2019 warm weather rotation. The bold shade of this dress is such a great opportunity to add in black warm weather accessories. These can easily be forgotten in favor of lighter, beachier shades, but how much fun are they?  I’m forever someone who tends towards a bold black accessory. But I’m particularly fond of the contrast of the woven bag and hat against blonde hair. Which is why you often see me in a black boater in the summertime.

    ULLA JOHNSON

Pomme Wicker Shoulder Bag (affordable option HERE and HERE)

Up top we’ve got Janessa Leone’s Suzanne Hat.

It’s a black straw beauty that is stunning while also giving off slight Hamburglar Audrey Hepburn vibes. The bag is by Ulla Johnson. Also I love how year after year I can absolutely always count on this designer for vacation-perfect bags. When it comes to Ulla Johnson’s plans for this summer, I feel like we have a lot to look forward to.

Don’t be afraid to pack a little drama in your next vacation suitcase. Yes, yes, we’re all about traveling minimally. Still sometimes there are dresses that you’d be too sad to leave behind. They want to join in on the fun, too—let them.
