This suit, which is perfectly at home in 2019, did not fall from heaven as one might expect, but instead comes to us from Rachel Zoe, my friend who happens to have a black belt (no pun intended) in creating perfect—dare I say—iconic suits. Sometimes I wish she could just move in with us and run my professional wardrobe entirely, but I haven’t had the chance to run this idea by her yet. Stay tuned.
The grosgrain-trimmed satin blazer and matching wide-leg pants team up to form an unstoppable duo in the shape of a modern, ridiculously chic suit. Is it just me, or did this suit somehow pull off polish and pajamas at the same time? Actually, no. The only real pajama vibe you get is when you put them on and immediately feel so comfortable, you start to wonder whether your afternoon conference call could be canceled in lieu of a little cat nap. Not to say this suit makes you feel sleepy—it’s dripping with take-over-the-world power suit vibes—I’m just saying that you’ll be so comfortable, you might forget to take it off before hopping in bed at night.
Wearing a suit that speaks to your personal style, is comfortable, and maybe even a little bit memorable too can only serve to build your confidence and help you put a professional face forward. Hint: This suit does that for me, which is why I wore it to speak at a conference a few weeks back and continue to wear it anytime I need a power play outfit that simultaneously feels like a soft hug.
It’s also a really elegant canvas for accessories and perhaps your favorite power shoe. I also love that taking it out after work doesn’t feel weird. You know, like sitting at dinner with friends in a standard suit might feel as if you should be counseling them on quarterly tax filings, but this look can flow from day to evening without blinking.
