    NYC Orchid Show

Stop what you’re doing, the NYC Orchid Show is upon us and if you have never been to this—quite frankly fabulous—event, pull yourself together, squash the jealousy you have from not going to the dog show, and literally take some time to stop and smell the flowers. Do a google image search for this and tell me you’re not entirely sold. It runs through April 28th!

Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat on Netflix

I am loving these shorter format documentaries on Netflix, given that I don’t always have time or even the desire to commit to a new 20-episode endeavor. Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat is a new four-part docuseries starring Samin Nosrat, a chef and food writer you’re about to become obsessed with for the way she explores flavors and entices you to want to do the same. In just four episodes, she takes you around the world and introduces you to methods and flavors you never knew about, but absolutely need to.

    The Clockmaker’s Daughter

Are you ready for more page-turning from the author of The Lake House? Obviously. I just finished Kate Morton’s recent novel and if you’re looking for something to keep you company during the remainder of these cold months or toss into your vacation bag, you just found it. All that’s missing is a massive “do not disturb” sign to stick into the sand next to you, and you’re all set. This book is SO GOOD. Also, if you prefer to consume your favorite novels audibly, Joanne Froggatt (who played Anna on Downton Abbey) narrates the unabridged Audible version and does…

    Skimm This

In general, the news is a lot. It’s impossible to keep up with all of it while living life and having a job and maybe also a social life. So every Monday-Friday, my favorite new podcast, Skimm This, is your 11 minute recap of all the relevant news you need to know about. Rather than feel like you need to spend your evening catching up on the news of the day, take an 11-minute listen on your way home and start your evening all caught up. Genius.

    Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier

If you’re a Hitchcock fiend like me, you’ve likely seen the movie version of this book. It’s one of my all-time favorites and Hitchcock’s first big Hollywood success. But as with all things, the book is better—and still an engrossing read even if you’ve already seen the movie. If you’re an audiobook person, it’s been really well done on Audible by narrator Anna Massey. Cannot recommend highly enough.

    Russian Doll

We’re fleeing the cold weather this week so I pre-downloaded Russian Doll on Netflix for the flight. Have you watched it?  Created by an all-female team (including Amy Poehler!) I haven’t seen it yet, but it’s been recommended to me multiple times by friends with a variety of tastes, and that’s usually enough to pique my interest. I’m hearing things about a really innovative plotline, and I’m all about fresh takes.

To Kill A Mockingbird On Broadway

Ummm….maaaaybeee stop what you’re doing and buy tickets to see To Kill A Mockingbird on Broadway? Right now? Cool. I recently saw this and it’s a must see. Take me seriously here, Aaron Sorkin did a masterful job of reimagining this story for today’s audience. Also Jeff Daniels as Atticus…simply sublime. This is your next night at the theater, 100%.

    The Assassination of Gianni Versace

You may have noticed that the miniseries we’ve all been waiting to Netflix has finally arrived on Netflix. The Assassination of Gianni Versace is just so good. Darren Criss as Andrew Cunanan is brilliant, so good in fact that he won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie. It’s a deeply troubling story beautifully told. Also Penelope Cruz as Donatella Versace is everything.

    Mary Poppins Returns

If you can make it through the Mary Poppins Returns trailer without weeping like a toddler, I congratulate you.  This extremely welcome sequel stars Emily Blunt, and I’ll be seeing it with my mom (and a box of tissues and Sour Patch Kids) over the holidays.  It’s kind of the perfect “see a movie with family” movie when everyone has different tastes, you know?  Buy tickets now because it will probably be sold out all Christmas break.

Dinner Party Game: Which Would You Choose?

If you haven’t heard of it, “Which Would You Choose?” is essentially a grown up and totally acceptable-at-a-dinner-party version of Would You Rather.  These boxed card game sets are so fun and always just plain genius to have around after dessert. Some of the best memories made at a dinner party have nothing to do with the meal.
