Hunting For Investment Pieces On eBay
Allow me to provide you with some of my favorite examples (a.k.a. closet treasures) that I’ve found on eBay. I’ve literally discussed encasing them in glass to display in our living room (a trophy case of sorts), but Rich has never particularly warmed to the idea.
First, a classic YSL bag than can be worn multiple ways, and with pretty much everything. You’ve definitely seen me getting the most out of this bag on Memorandum. It’s essentially impossible to go wrong with an impeccably-made, timeless bag that lasts forever and looks at home with almost any outfit. This bag can be worn as a clutch or crossbody. I’ll let you do the math on how much that flexibility instantly improves your cost-per-wear.
Something else to keep in mind, eBay itself is an incredible bag resource. Through a feature called eBay Authenticate, which is a three-layer system of checks eBay performs to ensure the authenticity of the bag you’re buying, you know that when a bag is labeled authentic, it’s 100% real. It’s that extra peace of mind layered on top of eBay’s process that lets me shop worry-free. Well, almost worry-free. Right now I’m worrying about whether or not I should get this black Chanel medium flap bag, or a beige top-handle Chanel, or a YSL leopard bag (which you’ve seen me wearing constantly lately!), because I’m essentially enamoured with all three. Oh yeah and this Bottega Veneta essential pouch. Because there wasn’t already enough on my mind or in my cart.
And then, dear friends, there are sunglasses.
Yes, I’m about to talk about my absolute favorite Alaīa square-frame sunglasses that are sold out literally everywhere but can be found in the magical land of eBay. And oh by the way, they’re being sold for SIGNIFICANTLY less than what I paid for them.
Next up? Brace(let) yourselves. We’re about to talk about jewelry finds and today, I have paired a Cartier Juste Un Clou bracelet (the one I’m wearing is slightly finer than this one linked), with my favorite, 100% timeless, literally will-wear-them-the-rest-of-my-life Chanel earrings. Colette already has her eye on both of them, and absolutely not. Conduct your own eBay search-and-rescue mission, Coco. You can explore endless luxury jewelry options on eBay. And I do mean endless. I will literally never tell you to stop unless you get hungry and need Shake Shack.
My next favorite category: SHOES.
Yep, you can buy shoes on eBay, lots of shoes. All the shoes. If I were you, I’d start with these Chanel Black Lambskin and Patent Calfskin Ballet Flats. But hey—it’s your choice. One thing I want to point out about eBay is that we’ve really been sleeping on this site as a resource for brand-new items. There are literally countless new items across all your favorite brands. And made extra fun to shop because eBay actually feels like digging for treasure. And I like treasure. In shoe format.
While I’m definitely talking about investment pieces here, another fun part about an eBay adventure is that there are finds for literally every budget. Truly one of the most unique parts of exploring eBay is never knowing what you’ll find. Or what kind of steals await. If you like your shopping with a side of being surprised, eBay is the URL you need to spend time with. Now if you’ll excuse me I think I’ve just spotted a vintage Chanel tweed jacket in my search results and I need to investigate further.
Happy Hunting!
