Starting with the base later, I’m wearing a classic ribbed long sleeve tee (that price tag tho…stock up!). I’ve paired a great basic with a pleated faux leather midi skirt you’re going to get lots of wear out of this winter. See? Only two items in and we’re already into chic details. Love a good pleat.
Topping off these essentials is a double breasted glen plaid tweed blazer with gold buttons and fringed edges that take it from a good jacket to a great jacket. You love tweed, you always want to wear tweed, this is precisely the season to make it happen, especially when the details are this fun. Glen plaid is such a classic way to add texture and interest to almost any look that’s based on essentials. The price tag on this one is also excellent, and it’s likely to become a key player in your winter workwear, too. Given the additional fun accessory moments that are soon to follow, I’ve chosen a sleek, basic bootie with a beautiful heel.
Accessorize
Now, let’s have some fun. Shall I take it from the top, so to speak? You and I know each other, you know there’s little I love as much as a headband. Did you know you can buy BaubleBar headbands at Nordstrom? Consider yourself informed. Consider my head accessorized. Black velvet and pearl are a classic combination that will never steer you wrong, especially not while they’re holding your hair perfectly in place. Heading slightly farther south, I’ve opted for an embellished pearl earring that complements the headband nicely.
Feather handbag? Don’t mind if I do! What’s the point of wearing a winter coat with all that pocket room if you can’t carry a tiny bag entirely covered in feathers, hmm? The texture of this bag feels just playful enough against the contrast of the more polished pleats in my skirt, and I really love how a top handle mini bag essentially acts as extra jewelry. Because the sun (sometimes) shines in winter, I’ve opted for these 54mm Square Sunglasses by ALAÏA, which are a splurge piece, for sure, but when you factor in cost-per-wear over the lifetime these classics will last you, they’re simply a smart investment.

Complete Your Look
In the event that you’re thinking a bold red lip doesn’t count as an outfit detail, allow me to gently tell you otherwise. A bold red lip, particularly in winter, lends polish and completeness to an outfit as you walk out the door. Here, I’m wearing NARS’ matte lipstick in Inappropriate Red, though this color is entirely appropriate for this look.
In conclusion, don’t fear the details, especially not when they’re going to help you have so much more fun with your winter wardrobe.
