While I’m on the subject, it’s worth noting that Nordstrom‘s beauty services, extend way beyond what’s on the shelves and drool-worthy counters. You can get makeup application lessons or even your full face of makeup done by your favorite brand in store. The paid services are even broader in range, starting with brow sculpting when things are getting out of hand in your forehead region, and extending to full spa services at certain locations… that I bet you didn’t know you could have after a long day of shopping at your favorite store. If you don’t live near a location with the full-service spa experience, you can still take advantage of a variety of perks including free shipping and returns as well as gifts with certain beauty purchases.
And, of course, they offer a truly insane range of beauty on Nordstrom.com, as evidenced by my beloved, tried and true everyday makeup products below.
My Everyday Makeup Routine
1
Face Oil
By this point, everyone knows that a moisturized face accepts makeup so much better than one that’s not. Especially in the winter, hydration is not only key to overall skin health, but especially important in helping your makeup stay all day. I lay the foundation (for my foundation), with the super hydrating Elemis facial oil you’ve heard me rave about thirteen million times before.
This plant-based Superfood Facial Oil is all about supplying your skin with the nutrients it needs. In addition to various nourishing oils, it includes antioxidant and omega-rich ingredients like flaxseed and daikon radish which sound kind of like a salad but also, I want to put them on my face. This creates a moisture-rich first step in my routine that will help each product that comes next do its job beautifully, in a way that lasts. I’m not a fan of doing my full face twice in one day, you know?
2
Tinted Moisturizer (Bisque)
You know it, you love it, you were as happy with the reformulation as I was. This tinted moisturizer sets the stage for countless beauty routines around the world, because it really works. The product gives a lightweight coverage that’s less than your full-coverage foundations for fully glam nights, but still gives your skin an even-ness and perfecting tint we’re looking for. It also has SPF 30 (plus vitamin C and E) which allows me to skip all of those steps in the morning and gives me so much confidence that I’m properly taking care of my skin, especially in winter months when things are feeling particularly dry and SPF isn’t top of mind.
3
Concealer (Light)
This Wander Beauty concealer duo is starting to get major attention, which may or may not be my way of telling you to stock up—now. I have been using it exclusively for over a year now and am a total convert (no offense to my longtime Lancome favorite—you’re a close second and will always have a special place in my heart and under my eyes). I apply it beneath my eyes as well as lightly around my nose with the full coverage stick side of the product, and then the liquid illuminating side where needed. Also, I appreciate that this product speaks to both of the reasons we use concealer, all in one tube: the matte side is intended to help with discoloration or imperfections, while the illuminating liquid side brightens and highlights. You can also layer both sides together when you really need maximum coverage.
4
Bronzer (Laguna)
I love a good bronzer for contouring and I’ve never found one I like as much as the cult-favorite Nars Laguna. It’s highly buildable and blendable, and gives a gorgeous glow due to its very subtle gold shimmer. I primarily use it as a contour shade, but you can also apply it for all over color in the warmer months. To give definitely to my features, I use it on the top of my forehead, the hollows of my cheeks (under my cheekbones), and lightly under my jawline. Make sure to do a very light sweep over your neck to prevent a stark contrast south of your jaw.
5
Finishing Powder (Translucent)
Let’s keep shine at bay, shall we? I use Laura Mercier’s Translucent Loose Setting Powder on my T-zone and under my eyes, both to set my concealer and also avoid shininess. It’s sheer and silky and gives a soft, subtle blur. This product never gives off a cakey appearance, but makes my makeup last way longer while ensuring my face never ventures into “reflective” territory.
6
Highlighter (Highlight 01)
Also by Laura Mercier (she knows her stuff) is my Matte Radiance Baked Powder that I use for highlighting. I brush it on the tops of my cheekbones, down my nose, my Cupid’s bow, and beneath the arch of my eyebrows. It gives subtle, glowing, natural dimension to my overall look that gently radiates, rather than knocking you over with shimmer. I also love that it’s non-drying, because I’ve found other powder highlighters to have a drying effect in the past, and I’m not a fan.
7
Blush (Adore)
While winter’s chill is doing its best to add the blush to my beauty routine for me (gee thanks), I strongly prefer Joeur’s Blush Bouquet in Adore. It’s actually a set of two shades, both highly blendable, and I love this particular set because it gives gorgeous color without looking overly pinky or sweet. Instead it gives a great natural rosy-ness. It’s fully pigmented and will last you all day long.
8
Eyebrow Gel (Dirty Blonde)
Now for the brow. I use Bushy Brow Strong Hold Gel by Lime Crime for brow taming, and I’ve actually started using this before eye pencil because I find that I have to use much less of the pencil if my brows are all in place with this product first. Also, I have found that my brows look more natural when I break up the gel a little bit by applying my pencil afterward. I love the texture this product gives my brows and also fully appreciate its all-day staying power.
9
Eyebrow Pencil (Taupe)
For my brow pencil, I rely on the master. This is Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Brow Wiz Mechanical Brow Pencil in Taupe. I use short, light strokes to fill in my brow and blend with the convenient spoolie attached to this slim pencil. Anastasia’s brow products are well known and well loved. But if you’re not feeling confident about doing your brows yourself, book an appointment with them at Nordstrom, and take notes.
Note: If you’re blonde, you likely know how hard it is to find a brow pencil that’s light enough but not orangey. Not only does the product last, but when it comes to color, it’s the best of the best!
10
Eyeshadow (Slate)
Most days, a light touch of Bobbi Brown’s eyeshadow in Slate is all I need in the creases of my eyes. Believe it or not, it’s the only color I’m wearing in the pictures above! It’s a beautiful, easy-to-blend matte finish shade for every day. Also, it is densely pigmented so can be built up if you’re looking for an overall appearance that’s more dramatic. If you like a little more variety or feel reluctant to commit to just one shade, this palette is amazing—I’ve been using it constantly throughout this holiday season.
11
Mascara (Deep Brown)
Everyone needs a strong-performing mascara. For me right now, it’s Lancome’s Définicils Lengthening and Defining Mascara in Deep Brown. Length. Definition. Separation. Mascara has three jobs and this one does them all, flawlessly.
12
Lip Pencil (Tawny Rose)
Of all my makeup, lip color is what I switch up most often depending on what I’m wearing, where I’m headed, etc. However, Jouer’s Long-Wear Crème Lip Liner in Tawny Rose is my go-to lip pencil because it’s very close to my natural lip color. After applying, I layer on any number of nude or light pink shades on top. This product is a highly pigmented matte cream that acts as the perfect base for your lip color and lasts all day.
13
Hydrating Lipstick (Absolute Rouge)
It’s red lip season (but really, when is it not). I’m going all-in on the bold red lip these days with Lancome’s L’Absolu Rouge Hydrating Lipstick in shade Absolute Rouge. This is my absolute (lol) favorite bright red shade, but in general, this is also one of my favorite lipstick formulas, because it’s so moisturizing. It contains moisture-boosting Pro-Xylane, which means it can offer a massive amount of color without any accompanying dryness. It’s a solid option for a daytime red that should live in your bag, honestly.
14
Longwear Lipstick
When your days (or nights) are long and super-packed, this is my favorite longwear formula for no-reapply situations. Better still, Nars’ Studio 54 All Access Full Size Powermatte Lip Pigment Set includes three lipsticks for $45 (and is valued at $78, hello), so you’re getting an amazing stretch on your dollar. This set happens to include three of my favorite hues of this product, so it stands out as an amazing gift for the women in your life if you’re feeling stuck or overwhelmed by all of the beauty options. You know that this one is incredibly effective and will be used to the last drop.
