I know what you’re wondering, and the answer is no.  It is not a coincidence that the first post-Clooney nuptials blog post is all black.  I thought something funereal was appropriate.

A few notes:

This dress is fully lined with a beige-colored fabric, so you won’t have to worry about any scandalous see-through-ness at the office.  However, if your workplace is particularly conservative, you may need to wear a blazer or cardigan over the dress since the sleeves are unlined. If it’s still too much for you or your office, but you like the idea, check out this awesome skirt version instead.   If you’re petite, this dress also comes in petite sizes.  Score for you.   If you’re not into the form-fitting sheath/pencil skirt silhouette and/or you just want something that’ll be more forgiving post-Chipotle burrito at lunchtime, the same designer makes an extremely similar dress here with an a-line midi skirt instead.  Options, baby, options.

FYI — This week, both the Bloomingdale’s AND the Saks Off Fifth Friends and Family Sales are on!  At Bloomingdale’s, there’s 20% off basically everything with code ‘FRIENDS’ and at Saks Off Fifth, there’s an extra 40% off basically everything, also with code ‘FRIENDS.’  (I’m thinking these guys could get a little more creative with their promo codes…)  As always, you can check out my sale picks by perusing my Pinterest Wishlist Board here.  Saddle up.

These might be the best high-waisted pants I’ve ever owned.  They’re actually full-length trousers, but today, I’m wearing them cuffed as the weather is in flux and I’m not ready for a full-fledged fall/winter get-up.  This super lightweight knit is also a great transition piece, and it’s surprising how much the subtle stitch detailing around the neckline and down the front adds.  Especially as the weather cools down, I’m also a big proponent of commuting with a hat.  Not only does it provide the mother-appeasing heat-retention factor, but it also protects your hair and keeps it in place as you brave the wind, rain and other rage-inducing elements.  And, unless you have an offensively long commute, you won’t be wearing it long enough to worry about flattening your hair or awkward forehead creases when you show up to the office.  Happy Monday!

P.S. The Brooks Brothers 25% off Friends and Family Sale ends today!  Check out my sale picks here and use code ‘FF25.’

Casual Friday

Olive Jeans: Marc Jacobs (on sale! also love these coated ones)  |  Silk Blouse: J. Crew (also love this one)  |  Sleeveless Cardigan: Ralph Lauren (old but many similar below) |  Belt: Banana Republic (similar here)  |  Sunglasses: c/o Stella McCartney  |  Shoes: Charles David (love these ones)  |  Nail Polish: Essie  |  Jewelry: c/o Selin Kent / Visible Interest

While I don’t happen to be wearing any Brooks Brothers in today’s post (although this BB long-sleeve cardigan is very similar to today’s sleeveless version), I just wanted to give a quick heads up that their Friends and Family 25% Off Sale starts today and ends Monday 9/22!  I’ve always been a huge fan (obviously), so definitely take advantage of the sale and score some new fall staples (that you’ll have forever) with code “FF25.”  The sale covers both the regular Brooks Brothers line, the more contemporary Red Fleece line and also the Black Fleece line by Thom Browne, of which I’m an enormous fan (check out this recent post and this recent post).  With Zac Posen now at the healm as creative director, I’m super pumped for even more great things to come from the classic American brand.  Seriously, if you don’t already own one of their non-iron dress shirts or classic blazers (like this navy one, hello)… well you should fix that.  I’ve had this camel hair blazer for over two hears, worn it like it’s my job all fall and winter, and it still looks brand new.  Definitely worth a little investment.  Check out more of my sale favorites on my pinterest WISHLIST board here. Happy shopping and Happy Friday!
