Every girl knows their closet is incomplete without the famed Little Black Dress. However, in addition to the LBD, I’m convinced that the same is true for its younger, more limb-inclusive sister, the Little Black Jumpsuit. To be honest, in the last few years, my favorite LBJ (not to be confused with the 36th president, though I feel like he would’ve appreciated a good jumpsuit) has actually been worn more often than any of my LBDs. I know. Shots fired! It’s full-blown WWIII in my closet right now.
Not only are jumpsuits super comfortable, but they actually can be much more versatile than their dress counterparts. An LBJ in particular can look just as dressy as an LBD, but the pants factor allows the jumpsuit to be more easily dressed down. And while both pieces are great seasonless investments, I’d be inclined to say that the little black jumpsuit is the better purchase as we head into fall and winter—because again, you’re getting all of the formality without the excess exposure of your lower extremities as temperatures drop. I can say from experience that the LBJ is a cold-weather godsend.
I wore this black jumpsuit to the rehearsal dinner of one of my best friends this past weekend, and it was super comfortable for a hot summer evening. However, I’m excited to wear it all through the fall and winter with a leather jacket, and not freeze my keister off like I do in little black dresses.
The jumpsuit you see today is new to my closet, but I got this long-sleeved DVF wrap jumpsuit a couple years ago and if you follow me on instagram, you know I have worn it COUNTLESS times since. Easily the MVP of my closet in the past two years.
I’ve included a bunch of my favorite LBJs below, but holy smokes, check out this one and tell me it isn’t the coolest most versatile (literally) thing you’ve ever seen. I’m 100% purchasing it… I’m just torn about what color to choose. I know I’ll get a ton of use out of the black… but that blush?! Sheesh that beauty’s hard to pass up.

Let’s be honest, because I own many jumpsuits and NO ONE is talking about the elephant in the room. Yes, I look super sleek and chic in my jumpsuits. Yes, they are elegant and easy to wear. BUT, jumpsuits are in no way practical. Nope, not in any way. I’m going to open the conversation about restrooms and jumpsuits. Unless you are super privileged and have a single restroom at your disposal at work then going to the restroom in a jumpsuit is a cringe worthy experience. American restroom stalls infamously have gaps between stall doors and there is nothing more embarrassing that sitting on the john while in your bra and your jumpsuit gathered around your knees in a bunch as you desperately hope none of it will touch the floor. The cold air hits your exposed upper body and instantly you feel disgusting for having to partially undress. You pray to whatever being will grant you your wish that no one will accidentally spy you through the crack in the door and wonder just why in the heck you are partly naked while using the restroom. For this reason alone my jumpsuits have a two hour window. Wear to have dinner and go straight home. Maybe grabbing a drink or two (can’t do three cause that would bring forth the embarrassing restroom debacle). Please, I cannot be the only person experiencing this?!
I actually agree with you. The jumpsuit looks gorgeous on Mary, but I don’t find them practical either, especially with back zipper and straps and belts will need so much adjustment, probably with somebody’s help. The dress wins in my wardrobe 😉
Looking so classy and glamorous in this outfit! Perfect jumpsuit!

Really like the idea of the LBJ taking the place of the LBD as we head into colder temps! I think it’s especially great for travel since it’ll pack down nicely into your carryon and can be dressed up or dressed down – it’s a couple outfits in one. I’ll be adding this to my Fall/Winter 2016 wishlist ASAP! Have a great week ahead!
My LBJ is definitely the MVP of my closet, too. I’ve gotten tons of wear out of it and it easily makes you step out looking chic. Love your LBJ here!

I love the jumpsuit. Especially around the neck and shoulder area. Also, every time I see the belt, I get another urge to buy it haha. But, it’s on my future wish list instead 😉

Brilliant! Never thought about a LBJ as a chic, good cold weather alternative to a dress. As someone who freezes in the winter, it can be a challenge to get dressed up for a night out. goosebumps on bare legs is NEVER attractive. 🙂 I’m willing to overlook some brief maneuvering in the restroom to be warm the rest of the evening.
Like little black dresses, little black jumpsuits will never go out of style! The one you’ve featured is gorgeous.

The jumpsuit looks gorgeous to you. You are so elegant, classy. I personally like both the little black dress and the jumpsuit. Moreover, both are black, my favorite color. The black color will always be a timeless color.
