When it comes to my work wardrobe, I’m all about versatility. When I invest in a piece I really love, I want to make sure it can go the distance. Over the next three days, you’ll see how this pink and navy jacket can be worn not only three different ways, but specifically for three different work situations. First at bat today is how I’d suit up for presentation day at the office. This pink and navy jacket really knocks it out of the park.
(Yeah, get used to the sports analogies. I grew up with only brothers, therefore my entire life is a sports analogy.)
Jacket: J. Crew (here or similar here); Skirt: J. Crew; Top: Ann Taylor; Shoes: Ann Taylor; Necklace: Gorjana (similar here); Earrings: Gold Teardrops

Just to be a voice of dissension, a friend who worked as an admin assistant to the CEO of a large brokerage taught that wearing statement clothing pieces in very bright colours or patterns detracts from a professional presentation.
While this is a fun office outfit, I can see what she’s saying. Bright magenta blazer + b&w polka-dot skirt equals visually distracting. I’m sure the recipient would rather be impressed by the content of the presentation than one’s fashion sense. Although, if it’s a tricky meeting, that just might help 😉
Thanks for your take, Lucia! As a fashion blogger, my goal is to present office attire that is both professionally appropriate and… fashionable. However, as I’ve said many times, you MUST tailor the ideas I present for your own specific work environment.
Since my readers work in all types of office environments — start-ups, grade schools, hospitals, law firms, investment banks, fashion houses, accounting firms, etc. — I make a point of reminding people that they must evaluate their own professional setting and alter their styles accordingly. It would be impossible for me to present a one-size-fits-all fashion blog for professionals.
I can understand that from the perspective of someone working in a large brokerage firm, that a more conservative route should definitely be taken. And, that’s my explicit suggestion in this series of posts (especially “Take Two – Client Meeting”) if you read on. However, if you work in many other professional settings, this would be the perfect presentation outfit.
Thanks for your input!!
