I’M ON THE HUNT FOR AN INTERIOR DESIGNER AND HERE ARE SOME RANDOM THOUGHTS THAT ABSOLUTELY NO ONE ASKED FOR:

I love interior design and would very much like to be an interior designer in my next life. In this life, I have come to terms with the fact that I need to stop thinking I can do it all on my own and find a designer to work with because I simply don’t have the bandwidth to do it all myself while maintaining a full-time job, two small children, etc. INTERIOR DESIGNERS ARE V NECESSARY. Especially for the insane universe of minutiae that we civilians don’t know and can’t anticipate — like exactly how much fullness can a specific fixed drapery bracket bear or how does one wrap molding around an electrical socket that can’t be moved or what do we do with a ceiling that’s 2 inches higher on one side of the room than the other? The reality is that an experienced interior designer will help you navigate all of the potential crises you’d never anticipate and help you save lots of $$ (and time and sanity) in the end.

SO, I’m currently on the hunt for the right designer but here’s what has always baffled me: To find a designer, you have to look through portfolios of their previous work. HOWEVER, their previous work is typically work done for previous clients — their stuff, their homes, their preferences, THEIR ultimate decisions. So, if you’re looking at a picture of a room and you think, “Why would they have decided to include that art” or “that weird clock” or “that bizarre collection of Star Wars memorabilia?” It could be the designer OR it could be the client who insisted on the inclusion of those items because they’re meaningful family heirlooms or something. You never know. Designers, how do you cope with this?! Must be such a difficult part of the job!

Breaking: Sources confirm the beast did, in fact, break the spell last weekend at the @milwaukeeballet’s performance of Beauty and the Beast (👆🏼 swipe for video interview with my source).
