Three years ago I cursed myself for reluctantly buying a black DVF shirt dress that I was sure I would rarely wear. Between the 40% off price tag and the evil Saks sales clerk that took advantage of me when I was in a frail and easily manipulated state (it was almost lunch time), I just couldn’t say no. Nevertheless, I’ve since worn it constantly. In fact, it’s become a tad (a lot) embarrassing. Since I’ve literally worn that version ragged, I was pumped to find this replacement by Rag & Bone. You can wear this sucker to work, to drinks, to brunch, to dinner… you name the activity, and it can happen in this dress. The Rag & Bone version pictured above is pretty cool because you can wear it tied in the back or front (as illustrate above) making the dress even more versatile. However, if this version isn’t for you, I’ve included some other black shirt dresses below that I really like as well, so take a quick scroll through. In other news, the Nordstrom ‘Half Yearly’ Sale ends in T-3 days. I was working out of San Francisco last week and as you can see, these brightly colored homes served up a healthy dose of inspiration for today’s post. I’ve classified this ensemble as “casual” because I’m sporting a denim pencil skirt, but if you swapped out the denim for a slightly more formal fabric, this outfit could swing at most conservative offices as well.
In addition to the pencil skirt I’m wearing above, I’m a huge fan of the denim pencil skirts below and am especially hoping to add this one to my collection. Combining the more conservative “pencil” silhouette with the traditionally informal nature of denim allows for these skirts to go from Casual Friday at the office to laid-back weekend wear without a hitch. Holy versatility, Batman.
