Off With Your Head
After just a few short months in the blogosphere, I’ve been amazed at the incredible response from readers all over the world. Among innumerable messages of (undeserved) gratitude and encouragement, as well as questions about appropriate office attire, many of you have asked, “Why is your head always cut off??” Well, people, the jig is officially up. Due to some exciting upcoming collaborations that require my face to be included, my time in the witness protection program has officially expired and it’s high time I address the issue. Despite popular assumptions, the exclusion of my head in photos is not, in fact, due to facial warts, an unruly unibrow, or horns. I know, I know, that would’ve been much more entertaining.Since the beginning, my entrance into the blogosphere has been driven by the goal of helping women polish their appearances at the office, and thereby further their career credibility. As a professional working on Wall Street in New York City, I can definitively say that The Classy Cubicle was not begun as an opportunity to take glamour shots or fulfill some adolescent dream of modeling — especially since my adolescent dreams were more geared towards becoming a professional water skier, concert pianist, and/or professional lego builder. It turns out there isn’t a huge market for musically inclined water skiers with an affinity for lego spacecrafts. I know, I was shocked too.In fact, the idea of “modeling” office-appropriate ensembles and putting those photographs on the interweb machine made me want to light myself on fire was extremely difficult to wrap my head around. Nevertheless, I felt there remained a dire need among professional women for office-worthy fashion ideas and a photo-based fashion blog seemed to be the only way to successfully convey the message and style inspiration. In the end, cropping my head off seemed to be a satisfactory middle ground. With some fun upcoming projects on the horizon, I guess I have to finally face (pun not intended) the idea that I can’t remain incognito forever. So here we go, full steam ahead… Skirt: J. Crew; Shirt: Ralph Lauren (similar here); Sweater: Ralph Lauren; Shoes: Candela; Belt: Ralph Lauren; Necklace: J.
