    Lighthearted Shows

It can’t all be period dramas and thrillers. Sometimes you just need to turn on something you can watch easily while making dinner or folding laundry that is guaranteed to distract you from the stressors of the world and boost your mood. At the moment, my favorite upbeat, light-hearted shows to watch when I just need a good laugh are as follows: Will & Grace, Seinfeld, Parks & Rec, Friends, New Girl, Schitt’s Creek, Grace & Frankie, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Office, Gilmore Girls, Golden Girls, and Cheers.

YES PLEASE to more phenomenal books made into series. Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington star in my latest obsession. Although, I’m not sure I’m okay with being attached to shows that make me wait an actual week in between episodes. What is this “patience” you speak of? This one already has six episodes available so that’s more than enough to catch up on!

TikTok! Yes, friends, your girl is on TikTok (@mary.orton). Prior to COVID-19, I didn’t really know what the purpose of the platform was other than… a place for 14-year-olds to do random dances? But fast forward to a month of quarantine, and I’m all over it. It’s much more than random dancing (though that can be fun to watch as well). There’s so much joy, creativity, and comedy (omg the comedy) happening on TikTok and I’ve really loved participating. If your Instagram is feeling stale or heavy, try TikTok—you won’t regret it.

    Belgravia

Leave it to Julian Fellowes to save us from our boredom! Belgravia is the latest from the Downton Abbey creator and after watching Episode 1 last night I can confirm it promises to fill the Dowager Countess-shaped hole in my heart. If you’re looking for an off-screen activity, Belgravia was first a book which I highly recommend reading before, during or after watching!

Great Pottery Throw Down on Youtube

Friends, please let me introduce you to the Great British Bake Off… of pottery. The Great Pottery Throw Down is a show you can watch for free on YouTube, and is a similar competition-style show, but you know… with clay. If you need an easy, heart-warming watch and perhaps inspiration to start a new hobby, this should be next on your list.

    Random Questions While Distancing Filter

I made a thing. It’s fun. Please feel free to go on Instagram and use it while passing the time (solo or with loved ones). The Random Questions While Distancing Filter is an Instagram stories filter I created so that you and your friends can… wait for it… answer random questions while social distancing. Go check it out in my IG highlights and make sure to tag me when you play because I, too, need to be entertained.

    Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker

Around here, we do what Colette says, and this girl loves baths. We’re in the bathroom a ton while she luxuriates I mean bathes, and she always demands the finest in classical and Disney musical stylings. Thus, this portable waterproof bluetooth speaker now hangs proudly on my shower door and works incredibly well. I also just love the size and that you can easily clip it anywhere. I have a feeling this will also be joining us poolside for many years to come.

    The Marvelous Mrs Maisel

If you haven’t already watched Seasons 1 and 2 The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, cease all other television viewing immediately. The new season starts December 6th! (Please hold my calls, thank you.) As you may have seen on my rather enthusiastic Instagram story, in celebration of the forthcoming season right now there are Mrs. Maisel windows up at Bergdorf‘s in NYC. They’re a must-see if you’re a fan of the show. Or Bergdorfs. Or windows. Honestly, I think I’d watch this show just for the costumes even if it wasn’t one of the most well-written, perfectly-cast masterpieces of the century.

    The Spy

Not exactly a casual watch while you’re cooking or folding clothes but The Spy should absolutely be on your autumn watchlist. This Netflix original tells the story of Eli Cohen, one of the most prominent Israeli spies of all time, who infiltrated the Syrian government in the 60s. Starring Sacha Baron Cohen, any fan of spy films needs to see this.

    The Downton Abbey Movie

As you may have seen on Instagram, Rich and I had plans to attend the Downton Abbey film premiere in New York last week, but travel delays (and by delays I mean nightmares) prevented us from being there. I gave the tickets to girlfriends, cried a little, and now we’re okay. As soon as we can secure a babysitter we are so going to see Lady Mary and company on the silver screen.
