Escape To The Chateau, on Peacock

If you’re not yet watching the show about the couple who purchase an abandoned French chateau and then fix it up you are MISSING OUT. Escape to the Chateau is definitely not a new show, but I recently started it and I’m telling you, it’s precisely the soothing, easy-watching, uplifting show we need during pandemic life. If you’ve run out of Great British Baking episodes and need something similar to fill the void, give this one a spin.

    Genius: Aretha

CLEAR YOUR CALENDARS, PEOPLE. It has recently come to my attention that the OTHERWORLDLY talent that is Cynthia Erivo is starring in a new anthology series about Aretha Franklin and she’s PLAYING ARETHA. My brain is melting just thinking about how insanely good this is going to be. It premieres March 21st on Hulu and thank goodness that’s a Sunday because I’d have to cancel my workday otherwise.

    Jeopardy On Netflix

Are you aware that you can just watch a bunch of old Jeopardy episodes on Netflix? Did you know it’s at least ONE thing to watch that’s not going to stress you out? Dare I say… it has a calming effect?? If you need something to watch that you really don’t have to invest yourself in, you know… so that you can RELAX, this is a go-to.

Holiday Movie Rankings & Streaming Info

You can stop googling “best holiday movies” every weekend. I’ve found a MUCH better resource. This site ranks all the greatest holiday movies, gives you their rotten tomato score AND tells you where you can stream them. I appreciate that they’ve taken the effort out of watching movies from home, which is kind of the whole point. Happy Holidays, one and all.

    The Crown

You have less than two weeks to complete any other television you were interested in watching in order to prepare yourself for the return of THE CROWN. It’s one of my all-time favorites for everything from the performances to the set design, and most certainly the style. If you’d like a dose of royal style inspiration before the new season, I suggest this outstanding Diana retrospective.

    The Queen’s Gambit

Is there anything better than having something in your Netflix queue that you’re SO excited to watch? The Queen’s Gambit is that for me. It’s the story of a young girl in a 1950s orphanage that discovers she has SERIOUS skills when it comes to chess. Where’s my popcorn.

    Rebecca on Netflix

Many of you told me that you shared my love of the classic Daphne Du Maurier gothic novel when I mentioned re-reading it last year. Now, we all get to watch Netflix’s adaptation of the 1940 Hitchcock classic, Rebecca, with a stellar cast that includes so many of my British favorites (I’m mildly obsessed with Keeley Hawes). Now, if you are a devotee of either the book or the 1940 film with Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine, try to avoid the comparison game and approach it with an open mind. This version is a dramatic departure in many ways, particularly…

    Marcella on Netflix

Anyone else… umm more than mildly obsessed with British crime dramas? Cool so, Marcella needs to be your next one. I know it’s not new, because it’s been on my list for years just staring at me, trying to get me to come to my senses and watch. I finally did, and IT IS GRIPPING. However, it’s very important to include a major trigger warning that it is quite dark at times and the second season of the show I found really difficult to watch because it involves some horrific themes around pedophilia and infant deaths. Definitely not easy for…

Yes, that Holmes. Netflix just released this delightful adventure starring Millie Bobby Brown as Enola Holmes, sister of Sherlock and a genius in her own right. It also stars Helena Bonham Carter (legend) and Henry Cavill (offensively beautiful man) and is the perfect pick for your next movie night. Or movie morning. There are no rules anymore.

    The Repair Shop

Among the rather significant inconveniences posed by a pandemic is the fact that there’s no new season of The Great British Baking Show. Fear not, broken-hearted friends, there’s a fix. Literally. It’s a show called The Repair Shop, and it’s all of the charming, heartwarming British niceness you need to see this summer. It’s been out for a few months but somehow I just stumbled upon it for the first time this weekend. There are several seasons, ensuring you can spend a weekend on your couch wrapped in a blanket and gently cradling a cup of tea to soothe your…
