This is going to sound bold, but if my home caught on fire and I could only save one blazer, my new one from Smythe would be it. It is, simply put, magnificent. It’s certainly an investment piece, but it is absolutely worth it in my opinion and photos really don’t do it justice. It’s a blazer you have to experience for yourself, in person. The body is made of a classic non-stretch suiting fabric, and the cut is a classic longline shape with perfectly placed darts and buttons. But then, the sleeves are actually a stretch fabric, which is genius because I love scrunching up the sleeves of my blazers (looks more chic), and the stretch also makes it so much more comfortable than you ever knew a blazer could be. With more comfortable movement in the arms, you no longer feel like a weird, stiff robot. Highly recommend you adding this beauty to the “wear-forever investment pieces” section of your closet.
Smythe Blazer
Once the first orangey-red leaf is spotted outside, it’s officially COZY FABRIC SEASON. Who among us hasn’t had a penchant for plaid come October, I ask you? But I’d like to focus our attention, if not our closets, on texture of another sort—one that’s elevated, elegant, and downright delicious. Of course, I’m talking about velvet, fall’s most luxurious of textures, both because it gives every outfit richness, and also because… it just feels super nice.
As I dive into velvet this fall (sometimes literally, it’s just so cozy), I want to give thought to utilizing the texture in more ways than we have in the past. For example, velvet items usually come in the form of dark, moody, jewel tones, perfect for holiday parties and evenings out. And while that’s lovely (I’ve been known to partake), I also want to make sure we’re not ignoring the full spectrum of velvet wearables in colors that have a little more lift.
