Monday Memo No. 82
A solid list of helpful items for these strange, quarantined times.
Greetabl
I love finding new, easy ways to connect (safely!) with the people we love, even when we’re at such a great distance apart. Greetabl is one extremely cute way to do that. Greetabl gifts are small, personalized gifts you send to the people you love, wrapped in a customized collage of photos and messages from you. If you’re feeling distant, sending cards, letters, or something sweet like Greetabl via snail mail really helps.
The Tee Shirt Dress
Listen, there is nothing wrong with living in pajamas forever, if that’s the way you want to roll—go for it, I salute you. However, if you’re feeling the need to slightly upgrade your homewear (that’s what I’m calling it, stick with me) beyond stretchy pants, Everlane’s $40 (!!) tee shirt dress is the comfortable but slightly more actual-clothes option we’ve needed. It comes in a multitude of colors to suit your preference and is the most effortless way to get Zoom-ready in an instant. Toss a blazer or cardigan over it for a slightly more polished approach.
Basket Grocery Cart
Whelp, if a grocery run is the only activity that is allowed (while masked, of course), we might as well make it cute. This charming basket-style cart is a massive upgrade from the more standard metal versions. Particularly in urban areas like NYC, this helps make shopping easier and more comfortable, as it’s much more gentle on you to wheel your groceries home when you’re avoiding public transit than it is to schlep them on your shoulder. Bonus: Having your own cart is one less thing at the grocery store that you have to touch. I also just love the idea of leafy greens and flowers peeking out of this thing while it’s scootin’ down the sidewalk and feel like this would look adorable parked in an entryway.
Light-Blocking Stickers
If you’ve ever been annoyed at a light emitting from technology in the middle of the night, these light-blocking stickers are about to change everything for you. They cover the “on” lights that stay on 24/7, so that the lights are dimmed enough to allow you to sleep in peace. You can also use them to hide any other annoying blinking indicators like the lights on your cable box or Apple TV that can be distracting while watching a movie. BRB need to cover half my home in stickers.
Wine Away
At this point in quarantine, I have no doubt that we’ve all spilled wine on ourselves while Netflixing. I’ve mentioned Wine Away to you before due to its incredible effectiveness at saving your wine-soiled clothing. I mean look at these reviews, this is CLEARLY a common problem that isn’t going away. Save your clothes, drink the wine, fear no spills.
Bright, Light, Personalized Throws
As the weather warms, but we still can’t go anywhere, we’re still going to crave classic couch coziness, but we might not need the heavy winter blankets we’ve been using during quarantine thus far. Lighter throw blankets are key. I love this option because it comes in some of the most mood-lifting colors I’ve ever seen, and because it’s monogrammable. It also makes an amazing gift for anyone you’re thinking of during these quarantined days. It’s made of a cotton/acrylic blend, so don’t be afraid to just toss it in the wash.
Proper Bra Storage
Oh, THIS is how you store bras, cool. I always thought they were supposed to just be stuffed into a drawer until it spews them out like a jack-in-the-box every time you reach inside. Who knew? Also can we talk about how accomplished we’ll feel once all of our bras are actually organized into a bra organizer? I can’t wait to open this drawer and not feel stressed.
Pantry Stocking How-To
Ever wonder how your favorite food bloggers just sort of always have everything they need perfectly ready and organized? Ever felt perplexed by what’s actually necessary in a pantry and what’s just something weird and fancy you’ll use once and then never again? SAME. This pantry stocking post by Smitten Kitchen is a simple way to get up to speed on what’s the most useful to have around. It’ll also help you draft your next grocery list and get in the habit of keeping the essentials well-stocked.
Lightweight Loungewear
Similarly to the throw blanket switcheroo mentioned above, a lot of loungewear can take an overly warm turn. For spring and summer, we’ll want lighter weight textures like jersey fabrics when we’re looking for easy items to wear comfortably around the house. I love Splendid’s textures for this purpose, but this is also really Eberjey’s time to shine, as no one does pajamas and loungewear better in my opinion. This is also a fantastic and affordable option that works just as well for lounge as it does for a quick Zoom call.
Staud Summer Dresses
Maybe I just wanna shop for summer dresses on Staud and cry? Does that count as an activity? I dunno. I’ll take anything at this point. But seriously…look at this thing! And this thing! Honestly, I don’t care if I can’t wear them out of doors until 2025. They will be mine. It’s perfectly okay to keep an eye out for timeless style staples you know you’ll wear forever, and buy them during the summer that might never be… You’ll know you have them for future days in the sun, and that’s a comfort.
Silicone Baking Mats
You’re baking, I’m baking, everyone’s baking. Let’s all bake with less stress and more success by using reusable silicone baking mats instead of tinfoil for a truly nonstick and scrumptious baking experience. These are completely worth the investment, you’ll wonder how you ever chocolate chip cookied without them.
Smart Plugs
Honestly, everything in life needs to be controlled remotely. If I could push a button and make Rich bring me a sparkling water, I might. And I certainly know Colette would wire us both to do peekaboo on demand if she could. If you’re currently frustrated by appliances (perhaps at your parents house where they haven’t made any upgrades in awhile), these lil guys allow you to remotely work any appliances that can be a pain to keep accessing via on/off switch all the time.
Feel-Good Work Music
We don’t get into tunes too often here at Memorandum, but I’ve been finding this album really helpful when I want music that puts me in a good mood, but isn’t so upbeat that it feels like party tunes. It’s a Tame Impala album from 2015, and honestly if now isn’t the time to revisit old faves, then when?
