Monday Memo No. 156
A collection of gift ideas and discount codes you’ll be thankful for.
Pre-orders of my locket collab with Monica Rich Kosann officially end TODAY! This will be the final opportunity to buy these special edition lockets in gold or silver. All orders can be monogrammed and will arrive in 8-10 weeks, in plenty of time for Valentine's Day or as a slightly belated holiday gift. We have been astounded by the excitement surrounding these pieces and I can't wait for everyone to get their locket!
If you’ve gotten a manicure recently, you know that there are almost as many nail shapes as there are nail polish colors. I came across this Glamour Magazine article that has a super handy infographic of virtually every nail shape. Since our move from NYC, I’m still testing out local nail salons and trying to find “my person” but have been frustrated that the terminology I use with one artist is interpreted differently by another. So, I have saved this image from the article and keep it saved on my phone. If you’re stumped by the differences between square, round and square/round, save the image to your phone and just point to the shape you like.
As gifting season quickly approaches, I’m stretching my fingers and stocking up on wrapping supplies. In the spirit of giving, I wanted to share the most beautiful wrapping paper I found from Dogwood Hill. I’ve already placed orders for the fruit de Provence, Swedish Christmas nutcrackers and Highclere Holly, but all of the designs from Dogwood Hill are like little works of art.
The Toniebox is my favorite screen-free toy because it keeps my girls entertained for HOURS. It’s a squishy cube that plays songs and stories designed to encourage listening skills and a love of reading. There are over a hundred different stories to choose from, everything from Disney to Paw Patrol to Cocomelon, Peppa Pig and more. With the code 20MARYORTON you can get 20% off orders of $99 or more and the code is stackable with their bundle!
The holidays beg many questions: Where should you seat your chatty Aunt? How did Santa know you wanted that? How can you still feel festive at a very casual holiday party? While I can’t help with the first two, Gap has come through with this metallic turtleneck for the third. This buttery soft, ribbed turtleneck is a perfect way to add shine without going overboard, and this turtleneck is currently on mega sale! It’s also a friendly reminder that many of Gap’s items come in petite, regular and tall.
I consider myself a bit of a connoisseur when it comes to Mary Janes and I’ve gotten a new seasonal favorite for the collection. These velvet Mary Janes from Frances Valentine have a perfect low-heel, square-toed design and a little bit of festive sparkle. They come in Black and Mustard, but the Red shade is the perfect holiday shoe to remind you there’s no place like home.
Full Moon Style has put a fun yet sophisticated twist on the classic Christmas cracker roll with their party snaps. Wrapped in handmade fabric in an assortment of stunning patterns, these party snaps are an easy way to add a chic pop of color to your holiday place setting. Plus, each one is filled with peppermints, paper crowns and tiny toys, so your place setting can double as a party favor.
These Liberty of London fabric cake toppers for Eleanor Moss Studio would make a precious finishing touch for all your holiday treats. Can’t you see this Christmas tree topper on a Buche de Noel or apple pie? Or for a bit of cheeky humor around the dinner table, put this Merry Christmas topper in your holiday roast.
I have been seeing these heatless silk curlers everywhere and they seem amazing at giving you bouncy curls overnight. You just wrap slightly damp hair around the curlers, securing them with silk hair ties, and leave in for 4-8 hours. I’m a side sleeper (I know, the wrinkles), so I’m not sure my curls will turn out as even, but I’m going to give it a try! These curlers would also make a really fun gift at any White Elephant party.
If you are on the hunt for an ultra chic gift for the woman who has everything may I suggest this cashmere bag? That’s right, it’s a cashmere… BAG. The slouchy, boho style is made from dreamy cashmere and you can truly take it everywhere. It feels indulgent, but also totally functional, especially in the cold weather months when more rigid bags can be uncomfortable to wear over layers. Shop it here at a discount, or check out the Extreme Cashmere website for more color options and a better idea of how it can be styled. This bag is like a hug and before you ask, yes! It’s machine washable!
I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating: sleeping on Boll and Branch sheets is like sleeping on a cloud. The brand is offering my followers early access to their biggest discount of the season: 25% off sitewide with the code MARY25. Don’t wait until Black Friday/Cyber Monday to stock up, you’re gonna want your rest when the in-laws come to town.
Iconic makeup artist Jillian Dempsey just launched mixturizer, the newest multi-tasking megastar of your makeup bag. The sheer, lightweight base cream can mix with your favorite foundation to lighten the tint or use it with your favorite lipstick to create a matching blush shade. The mixturizer is a hydrating way to give new life to the products you already know and love.
Of all the recipes I’m going to tackle over the next month, I think I’m most excited for these French onion mashed potatoes from How Sweet Eats. Thanks to the caramelized onions and melty gruyere cheese, these mashed potatoes promise to be a standout on my Thanksgiving table. My only problem will be sharing. I may end up parking them next to my plate and conveniently "forgetting" to pass the dish. Oh, silly me!
I bought these adorable Gap sherpa-lined jackets for the girls a couple months ago and the more they wore them, the more I found myself asking, “Do they make that in my size?” As luck would have it, they do! Gap’s denim sherpa jacket for adults is the same cozy, oversized layer as the ones my girls love. It goes with almost everything and surely means we’re overdue for another #MatchingMoment.
Tis the season… cold and flu season. I’ve been plagued with a terrible cold over the past several days and the only thing keeping my throat and lungs alive is this personal steam inhaler from Vicks. It targets a blast of warm steam to alleviate cough and congestion and the personal, portable design means that with a throw blanket and access to Netflix, I can get relief in any cozy corner of the house.
