It’s the dream, right? Truly comfortable athleisure that looks polished enough to not be pajamas. I love being comfortable, but I don’t want to look like I’ve made zero effort. It’s a tall order, but lululemon has always been a master of what I’ll call upscale-downtime clothing. So when they have major news to share, I’m all ears. Especially when it has to do with (spoiler alert) BALLET!
The news: lululemon is collaborating with English principal dancer Francesca Hayward of the Royal Ballet (!!!!) on a fresh collection of athletic essentials that live and breathe elegant effortlessness. That’s right, ballet-inspired looks for anyone who refuses to give up on the childhood dream of flawless form and hair buns with virtually no loose pieces. [*raises hand*] But if you’ve noticed, ballet-inspired gear can often feel a little frilly or old-school, and maybe it’s just me, but feeling like a girly cupcake princess doesn’t exactly inspire me to get a good sweat on. That’s why I am loving that the pieces in this collection (and Francesca Hayward) take a more modern, no-frills approach to ballet with deep, moody hues, and athletic silhouettes. It’s an inspired, sincerely fresh take on ballet style.
I’ve always been an enormous fan of ballet (currently looking forward to attending the ABT Fall Gala next week here in NYC!) but I’m also a total devotee to barre method workouts. Nothing gets me in fighting form and toned up like a Fly Barre or Physique 57 class (I also love Pure Barre and many of the Barre Burn classes at Equinox location in the city). That’s why I knew this collection wouldn’t disappoint when I learned how Francesca and lululemon’s designers truly put these pieces to the test.
Each piece is tailor-made for the kind of rigorous movement Francesca performs daily. lululemon’s designers even flew to London to watch Francesca rehearse, making sure every item not only stood up to the test but also enabled and enhanced her full range of movement.
While I’m obviously taking the Principal Dancer Golden Lining Tight and Principal Dancer Golden Lining Bralette for a spin (#balletjokes) immediately, I am also just as excited for my to-and-fro workout commute in the line’s drawstring pant and french terry hoodie as well. Truth be told, I also recently wore these leggings with over-the-knee boots and a belted, over-sized blazer for dinner with girlfriends. Whether you’re out the door to your favorite class or just really in the mood to feel like a ballerina for a moment (totally fine), pointe yourself toward this collection, stat.
