Clearly, I’m so excited for Thanksgiving, I decided to dress like pumpkin pie. Who’s with me?

For some reason, Thanksgiving is really late this year (which, quite honestly, I resent—do not come between a woman and her side dishes), but the extra time does allow you to get your sartorial situation in order. Plan your outfit in advance—bonus points if it matches the dessert you’re in charge of bringing.

Your Thanksgiving look is a multitasking one. Obviously you want to look put-together and presentable for family, those pictures will be making the rounds on Aunt Susan’s Facebook for who knows how long. But you’re also dressing for comfort, because… you know, seconds. The last thing you want is an uncomfortable outfit causing you to go home early and miss all the good family stories and gossip. Opt for something classic and comfortable, and most importantly, loose from the waist down! Foodbabies must have room to grow and flourish.

This year, I’ve chosen to accomplish every goal above with one very genius dress. It’s the Desirè Long-Sleeve Satin Dress from byTiMo, and the name of the game here friends is forgiving fabrics and ELASTIC WAISTS. I know what you’re thinking: silky satin isn’t that forgiving. Ah, but friends—it is when it appears in abundance! Ruched details on this round-neck bell sleeve stunner create the illusion of pleats, and the full a-line skirt adds tons of flowy movement. The design perfectly hides your secrets while also allowing you to play the part of best-dressed family member. And did I mention the waist band is elastic? Allow me to let you in on my strategy: immediately after finishing my plate of “firsts,” I excuse myself from the dinner table and momentarily retreat to the bathroom to loosen the belt by one notch (or two) before going back for “seconds.” No one has to know the belt is concealing an elastic waist.

As far as styling goes, this is a sitting event, so I feel perfectly at ease inviting Jimmy Choo’s Lacey Strappy Pump to dinner. I’ll need little more than a simple evening bag to tote a few small essentials, and my YSL classic will service nicely. It’s also conveniently too small to hold leftovers, so I know I’m not going to be the sibling that gets stuck with casserole nobody wanted.
