Guys!  Time to get cracking!  The epic Shopbop Friends and Family Sale ends today!  If you haven’t had a chance to peruse the sale guide I posted yesterday, have at it right here. If you did, you may remember this beautiful coral maxi dress from my list of favorite sale dresses.  The dress is one of my very favorites of the season, and I’ve been dying to share it with you since I brought it out of the box a few weeks ago.
When I originally came across this dress several weeks ago, I thought it would be perfect for my 30 Dresses in 30 Days series—particularly for the High Tea occasion.  However, I soon realized how versatile the dress was, and wanted to showcase not just how it can be worn as-is (too obvious, right?!) but how you could actually style it perfectly for the office.  With a maxi length and bohemian lace vibes, workwear isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when spotting this beauty, but by adding a crisp white collar, a thin black waist belt and black ankle strap pumps, it takes on an unmistakably fresh, professional appeal.  Knowing that you can easily wear it alone with nude ankle strap sandals (these would be perfect!) to any number of dressy spring or summer (or fall!) occasions, makes it even more of a winner in my book.
You don’t see this particular coral/peach hue often, which makes it all the more refreshing and unique—especially since it’s a universally flattering color.  The shade works beautifully for spring and summer, and I can even see wearing it well into the fall.
Not only does the crisp white shirt help make an otherwise bohemian dress work-ready, but as you’ve seen many times in the past (like this recent post), layering a white button down shirt underneath the sleeveless peach maxi dress is one of my favorite transitional weather styling tricks.  The extra layer works wonders in keeping you a bit warmer on those chilly spring days, and also extends the lifespan of your sleeveless dresses (boho or not!).  In this particular case, I also love the effect the bright white shirt has against the fringed lace of the armholes, making those details even more pronounced.
Took my breath away. The color is beautiful, the contrast of the white shirt is striking. I love “buttoned-up conservative/masculine” mixed with the feminine. Very lady-like while still leaving no question your figure is sick-in the nicest way ???? Now, I have to go see if I should pull the trigger on this one.
I have a question,,,how do you keep the shirt from not being bulky underneath such a slim smooth dress? Do you tuck it in some type of undergarment? I wondered if it was a bodysuit but followed the link to a normal button-down.
Great question! Here’s my favorite trick: Wear a pair of high waisted spanx (the higher the better, like this pair!) underneath and tuck the shirt into them. It makes the look comfy, fuss-free and totally without bulk or bunchiness!
This is such a pretty dress. I love the color, and how you styled this look with the white blouse and belt. I wish I was tall enough to pull this look off!
