I’m often fully committed to the idea of pretending fall does not exist for absolutely as long as possible. (I once attempted to wear shorts at Thanksgiving. In Wisconsin.) However, I can’t remember a fall fashion scene that had me more excited than this one. The plaids, prints, menswear, metallics, jewel tones and herringbones have left me with a full-on fall fashion FEVER. (…and the only prescription is more cowbell? I’m sorry, I had to.)
In the midst of obsessing over crop tops, booties, chokers and leather on top of leather on top of leather, I thought today might be a good time to get back to basics with a little reality check. While I’m all for embracing the new wave of fall trends, I think it’s important not to get lost in them. Instead, let the trends get lost in you. (I know, that was deep right there. Things are getting real right now on The Classy Cubicle.)I simply mean that you shouldn’t lose sight of (a) your own personal sense of style and (b) your environment. Forgetting these things and you’ll start rationalizing leather mini dresses and camo leisure suits at the office. And nobody wants to see that. (Literally. I asked everyone.) So, before jumping off the proverbial deep end, I thought I’d pause today and throw on a classic look that’s indicative of my own sense of style–regardless of the flurry of fall trends around me. Instead of allowing this season’s trends to rewrite the rules, be sure to carefully weave them into your own fashion sense. It’s not always easy, especially with a tempting line up like the one we’ve got this year. I mean, I sure never thought I’d be sporting a pair of overalls at the office and, well… that happened. Nevertheless, I (hopefully) was able to make it my own. I hope you do the same. (But seriously, no camo leisure suits. None. ZERO.)Get pumped, people. It’s officially fall.
