I wore this dress last weekend to my younger brother’s college graduation, and I was hardly in the dress for 30 seconds before my brothers started spewing all sorts of Claire Underwood jokes.  They’ve spent a lifetime perfecting the art of ridiculing literally anything and everything I wear (with the exception of my wedding dress… they were forced to stand down on my wedding day), but despite their best efforts, I couldn’t help but take each Claire Underwood wisecrack as a massive compliment.  That is, assuming the comparison was limited to her style and not her sociopathic tendencies.
Much like the black and white striped knit dress that I wore to my little bro’s baccalaureate mass, this ivory number is another classic, amazingly versatile dress.  I could definitely see it in any professional setting, but as illustrated here, it also certainly goes for those extra-curricular events where something classic and dressy is needed.  Somehow, inexplicably, I’ve been asked to be the godmother of my new baby nephew (I know, there must’ve been a clerical error…) but parental lapse in judgment or not, I am PUMPED and looking forward to wearing this ivory number again for the baptism.
Since I knew I’d be standing for most of graduation day, I snagged these black leather ankle strap sandals with a two inch kitten heel before leaving, and absolutely loved them.  After being on my feet from the early morning to the late afternoon, there wasn’t a barking dog in sight ; ) They come in about a million other colors too (here and more here on sale!), and I’m definitely thinking of snagging another pair. Â
It was raining on and off all day, so I brought this classic double-breasted jacket with me which came in really handy. Although it’s quite an investment piece, the classic cut and impeccable quality ensures that it will be something I wear (literally) forever.  If you’re a fan of the gold double-breasted look, check out this blazer at a much more affordable price point.  I just received it in the mail and am a huge fan!
If you haven’t hit up the Nordstrom Half-Yearly sale yet, be sure to check it out before it ends this Sunday, June 5th!!  I’ve got these sandals, these shorts, this perfect shirt, and this skirt in my shopping cart right now and I’m in danger of doing lots more damage. I also noticed that these jeans that I have and am obsessed with and this amazing long olive army vest that I’ve been wearing basically every other day since I bought it three weeks ago (right before it went on sale… ugh!) are also included in the sale and definitely worth checking out!  Take a flip through all of my favorite sale picks at the bottom of this post…
Loved this dress when you had it on IG a few days ago. Love the neckline/collar detail and LOVE that it has sleeves. Pairing the black jacket with it is…well….classic. Also like the lower heels on the sandals. For someone who has long ago put away the high stilettos, these are a godsend. Thanks and have a great weekend.
Love this look. So classy. And I love me some neutrals. Also, I love when blazers don’t look like one blob of colour so I love that the buttons are different and standout in a sophisticated way. It’s such a small detail but
Such a flattering dress, I love the high collar and the necklace you paired with it. Great for a college graduation because it doesn’t pulling attention from the new grad – or does it?
This dress is absolutely stunning and looks amazing on you! Would you mind letting me know if it runs TTS. I am unfamiliar with black halo sizing. Thank you so much!
I have searched high and low across the internet for this dress! I have it in neptune, but I desperately want it in white for my law school graduation photos. If you know of anyone willing to sell it, please let me know! 706.466.2655 🙂
