Fair Isle sweater patterns come from a traditional knitting technique first used in the Shetland Islands, where patterns are created using various colors. They became v posh when the Prince of Wales (and future king of England) wore them in the early 1920s.  Conveniently for us, the colors and styles have been modernized to look absolutely amazing when dressed up for a holiday event.  Although, please still feel free to wear them near a roaring fire with a cup of cocoa.

I’ve included a round-up of my favorite Fair Isle sweaters at the bottom of this post (how stunning is this one?!) but the mustard Fair Isle sweater I’m wearing today is a favorite found at Nordstrom.  To dress it up and make it event-ready, I’ve paired it with some classic David Yurman jewelry and satin trousers that I’m probably going to refuse to take off because I love them so much.  I mean really, we don’t spend enough time talking about metallic pants.

As far as accessories go, we’re talking about a classic sweater, so let’s make sure our jewelry follows suit.  Here, I’m wearing a pair of David Yurman bracelets (here and here) that I also found at Nordstrom, along with the brand’s stunning mini pinky ring in 14K gold.  There are few jewelry brands that make me as warm and fuzzy inside as a Fair Isle sweater does on the outside, and David Yurman is definitely one of them.  I still remember opening my first piece of their jewelry from my parents when I was in high school—a piece I still wear constantly!
