In all seriousness, family has always played a central role in our lives. So we’re beyond elated to start our own. I’m currently at the halfway mark through my pregnancy. I’m happy to report that I’m feeling pretty good these days after a real doozy of a first trimester. Some of you may have noticed that things were a little quieter than normal around here in January and February. Which was because I was suffering from a condition called hyperemesis gravidarum. I’ll spare you the gory details, but in a nutshell, it’s an extremely severe form of morning sickness characterized by round-the-clock vomiting which eventually leads to dehydration and the requirement of hospitalization, etc. You may have heard of it from news coverage of Kate Middleton or Amy Schumer. They also suffered from the same condition during their pregnancies. Obviously, the three of us are best friends now.
Bottom line: weeks five through sixteen were rough. I made a lot of jokes about naming this child Lucifer. I was only half joking. Stay tuned.
Now, however, I’m thrilled to be on the other side of that misery, and am feeling much better! I still require at least nine hours of sleep to function, but I actually have some energy back, am able to keep food down, etc. etc. Very exciting things!
In the coming months, I promise you won’t be inundated with maternity content. However, I do look forward to exploring and sharing some of the ups and downs of this new chapter here on Memorandum. In addition to all of the regular fashion and lifestyle programming you’ve come to know and (hopefully?) love. But, if there’s any particular maternity topics you’d like to see covered here on Memorandum, please let me know in the comments below!
For all of you veterans in motherhood, I’ll also very much look forward to your maternity/new-Mom advice as well! I have much to learn, and can’t wait to hear your tips. So please send them my way in the comments as well! Of course, I’m a little nervous about opening up Pandora’s Box. I’ve watched many close friends get hit hard by the wild community of “mommy shamers” out there. So, down the line, if I buy the wrong onesies or fail to properly swaddle on the first try, please, no one burn me at the stake, k?
With all sincerity, thank you so very very much for all of your sweet wishes already. Rich and I could not be more excited for this little one to arrive, and are counting down the days until August. In the meantime, I’ll be over here eating a party-size bag of caramel M&Ms.
Xx
