Starting this week off with a favorite off-duty look of late. I’m always a sucker for an all-black ensemble, and recently wore this outfit for a dressy evening of dinner and theater here in San Francisco. I’m a huge fan of this versatile off-the-shoulder top which works as well with jeans for a more casual evening out as it does dressed up with the more formal cut-out midi skirt as styled today. Speaking of this skirt, if you’re a fan of the overall look, you might want to check out this dress. To. Die.
I can’t get enough of these B-Low The Belt belts. I styled a gold one here recently, and am thinking about investing in this one or this one. Addicted much? Workweek to weekend, they amp up the simplest of outfits and prove the power of an updated accessory in reinventing classic wardrobe staples.
Nothing beats classic navy and white stripes, especially as we inch closer towards Spring and Summer months. I’m a huge fan of this dress, and due to the overlapping layer of material in the front, it honestly feels like there is some sort of built in layer of spanx that keeps everything really smooth in front. Especially with the sometimes-dangerous horizontal stripes we need every bit of help we can get, amiright?
I want to point out that this dress has slits on either side of the skirt, which will be fine on anyone ~5’8″ and under, but if you’re my height (5’10”) they may be a little high in an office setting—especially when you sit down. However, there’s a super easy fix for this: Take the dress to a tailor and have them tack the slits (this costs like $15). They can tack them either all the way down or just a few extra inches so you have more coverage. The dress is constructed in a way that would allow for the slits to be tacked without compromising the style or your comfort in walking, sitting, lunging, twerking, etc.
Happy Thursday!
P.S. One other note—if you check out the dress here, you may notice that the neck of the dress is a bit higher than how I’ve styled it in the photos today. I thought the mock neck length looked better than the higher turtleneck length, so I just chose to fold it over once. I know. Creativity running WILD.
Today’s super casual look is the last thing I wore before coming down with the flu for the past six days. It was the perfect comfy ensemble for running last minute errands before leaving for fashion week… or rather, before spending the next six days in the fetal position hugging a box of ritz crackers beneath every blanket my husband could find in the San Francisco Bay area. Get a flu shot, y’all.
I featured a similar oversized chunky Everlane sweater in this post recently, and after wearing that one non-stop, I had to give this burgundy beauty a try. If you follow me on instagram or snapchat, you know I pretty much haven’t taken it off lately.
My faux leather leggings were included in this post a couple months ago, and they’ve also been an off-duty staple that’s on constant rotation. Throwing them on with over-the-knee boots (sooo many good ones on sale here!) and an oversized sweater is my favorite easy dinner ensemble. A step up from regular leggings, the leather elevates the look without sacrificing comfort. Win-win.
