A few basic ground rules for black tie wedding guest attire before we begin: To start, we all know that you do not, under any circumstances, wear white as a guest to a wedding. Right? We’re all on the same page there? Even anything white-adjacent should be off the table. In fact, if you’re asking yourself whether or not you can wear a garment to a wedding, then the answer is probably not. There should be no question in your mind that you’re wearing an appropriate color and garment. No one wants to be the object of side-eye down the aisle.
Also, for black tie weddings, wear black tie! Don’t be the person who ignores the dress code. Black tie is a dress code traditionally attributed to events that begin after 6pm and necessitate a tuxedo. That’s all well and good for the gents, but what does it mean for women? It means you’re not wearing a dress. You’re wearing a gown. This is a pull out all the stops, hold nothing back gown. Those super dressy events you’re always bummed you never go to? You just got invited to one. Now, let’s dress for it. For the most part, this means floor-length gowns, but there are also the occasional super dressy tea length options (like this beauty) that work perfectly as well.

This floor-length stunner is made of a mid-weight velvet, and has a ruched bodice for a luscious drape effect. Its one-shoulder design has nonslip rubber binding at the neck, for preventing incidents, and the puff sleeve ends in a button closure at the cuff. It is poetry in bright pink and I’m in love with every inch of it.
Given the full drama this dress is bringing, your accessories should err on the side of understated. Trust me, the dress is doing all the heavy lifting here, give the rest of your wardrobe the night off.

Don’t fear the black tie, embrace the black tie. It is, without question, some of the best sartorial fun you can possibly have, so embrace the opportunity and the grandeur of the occasion with a dress befitting of both. Below, a few more of my favorite black-tie gowns. See you on the dance floor.
