Styling tips

Channel your inner Kate Middleton with an elegant tea-length dress and fun shoes! Go for something super feminine, but avoid strapless, spaghetti straps, and plunging necklines. 20. Beth says:

I love what you do, and how is a girl to choose? All your looks are amazing. Just thought I’d add some insight about Reid’s, it’s a British brand and in British sizes you look like a 6 to me, that might be why you need to size up?

    • Beth says:

Sorry about the auto correct Reid’s = Reiss

      • Mary Orton says:

Yes, in UK sizes I’m typically a UK 6. Unfortunately, I’m actually talking about the US sizes this time. In their US sizing, I had to go up to a US 6 in all of their pieces this season. : )

        • Sarah says:

I live in England, and i can tell you that comparison sizing is a mystery… usually UK sizes are 4 sizes up from US, but it really depends on where you shop. For example I wear a US 10 but in England I’m a 14. And Ted Baker has it’s own sizing schema, which doesn’t correspond to anything. Proceed with caution.

  21. Kathy says:

The interview dress and jacket is pure class. Love the color!

  22. Catherine W. says:

How is it that you always look better in the clothes than the stores’ models? You’re the best thing that ever happened to a dress!

  23. Julie Jacovec says:

Love the business conference look! So classic and clean lined! #30dressesin30days

  24. Sarah says:

Hey, Mary. I love this project. Can’t wait to see the rest of the month! A question: all of these dresses fit you incredibly well, as though they had been custom-made. While you have, indisputably, a great figure, I’m wondering how much you typically spend on tailoring? The dresses don’t even fit the models in the linked shopping sites as well as they fit you.

    • Mary Orton says:

Thank you! None of the dresses I’m wearing in the series have been tailored. In the case of shopping site models, many times a retailer will get a random sample size to use for the photos you see on their sites which can be way too big or way too small for the model that they select. While I haven’t had anything tailored, I know my sizing really well and in instances where I’m not sure, I often purchase dresses in multiple sizes and send back the ones that don’t fit! : )

  25. KL Register says:

    Classic and beautiful.

  26. Kelsey says:

  27. Viviane says:

Loving this series! Very organized also. That’s for proving the exactly link of. Where yo buy everything!! How do we enter the give away?

  28. Anthi says:

    Dear Mary,

I absolutely adore your blog! Although I can’t afford that expensive wardrobe and it wouldn’t also be appropriate in my workplace (I am a doctor in a public hospital) you have given me ideas to become more sophisticated and at the same time more daring with my sartorial choices. Thank you for that.

    • Melili says:

Hi Anthi, I’m a doctor in a rural public hospital– you can dress beautifully without being considered “posh”- focus on classic cuts, lovely fabric, and your individual style!

  34. Anne says:

Mary, I adore this black and red number! I have a lot of red in my wardrobe and a cocktail wedding next month, and freaking out. 🙂 I have hear of the rule ‘don’t wear red to a wedding’, but feel this can’t possibly be a reasonable maxim. Could you lend some perspective? Thanks a million for all your hard work. You are helping us girls out more than you know!
