The Game-Changing Workwear Brand You Need To Know

Finally, a workwear brand that actually, really gets it.

I’ve heard about MM.LaFleur for years, and finally had the chance to try out their Bento Box recently.  Man oh MAN are they a breath of fresh air.  Especially if you’re an attorney, finance professional, consultant, or simply a person in search of building a classic, sophisticated work wardrobe, I have officially found your go-to.

With stunning silhouettes, quality fabrics, and impeccable craftsmanship, MM.LaFleur has come up with—hands down—the most inspired collection of workwear pieces I’ve encountered to date.  No question.  Finally, a brand that does not see form and function as mutually exclusive.  A brand that knows style and substance can go hand-in-hand, and understands the sartorial challenges that professional women face in real life.  MM.LaFleur has managed to offer working women a true solution instead of another impractical fashion-industry take on how to “like totally look like a girl boss!”  Cue the collective eye roll.

In addition to their vast collection of beautiful workwear pieces (which, oh BTW, are travel-friendly and mostly machine-washable), MM.LaFleur offers amazing (free!) styling services.  By answering a few simple questions, an MM.LaFleur stylist will send you a Bento Box with four to six clothing items and accessories to try on at home.  They thoughtfully identify which pieces will work best for your body type and be appropriate for your specific corporate environment.  It is not a subscriptions service, so you’re not locked into anything, you’re simply charged for what you keep and send the rest back.  A total godsend for the busy working woman who needs classic, high-quality workwear, without the stress of shopping.  I had the opportunity to try out this service and can truly attest that their motto of “taking the work out of dressing for work” rings true.

For those of you operating in business formal environments which require you to dress conservatively, I know how difficult it can be to look at clothing billed as “work appropriate” just to find that the dress is actually not much longer than mini-skirt length, or the blouse has a deep v that travels several inches south of what’s realistically work appropriate.  I had the opportunity to try on multiple dresses, tops, skirts and jackets from MM.LaFleur, and without sacrificing an ounce of style, their silhouettes were truly differentiated.  Even tops with v-necks or skirts with slits are both tasteful and stylish, making me feel comfortable all day no matter what kind of bending/leaning/dabbing might take place.

Ladies, run don’t walk.  This universally flattering black dress originally amassed a 1,600 person waitlist for a reason.  You can shop everything I’m wearing online (where you can also sign up for a Bento Box) or if  you want to try things on in person, hop on over to their NYC showroom.   If you live in DC, stay tuned!  They’re opening a showroom there in March!

Mary – thank you for sharing! Thrilled to see options that are offered in many sizes and flattering silhouettes.

  7. Kathy says:

I’ve always migrated toward the classics and this dress fills that requirement for me. And I love that it has sleeves. Too often work wear like many wonderful sheath dresses are sleeveless. Not good in an air conditioned building. Plus sleeves cover up less than perfectly toned upper arms. This was a great find, Mary.

  8. That black dress is perfection! I can’t wait to check out their Bento Box—or visit their NYC showroom. Thanks for sharing this with us!

  12. Mary Ellen says:

Love these pieces–did you find them to run true to size?

    • Mary Orton says:

Yes, they ran perfectly true to size for me! If anything runs big or small, they usually include fit info on the individual product pages so keep an eye out there. : )

  13. Nicole says:

I’ve been an MM fan for a few years now – I own 4 of their dresses! I can definitely attest to their travel ability (I have never packed so light for a work trip – just throw a dress or 2 of theirs in a bag and I’m all set – unpack without wrinkles), clothes are super comfortable and breathable, and the machine washable factor is a HUGE bonus. Honestly, the last piece might be what brings me back and back again. Definitely worth trying out a bento. And be patient, all the styles are beautiful, but they fit a diversity of shapes. The first bento I tried wasn’t a super great fit but they took my feedback into consideration, and I have several pieces now that make me feel confident and lovely. Also check out if they are doing a popup in your city – the best way to try out the clothes is in person!

  14. Tina says:

I went to their showroom and although the clothes are beautiful they are also quite expensive and not well suited to curvy women.

  15. Jonilyn says:

  19. TKieu says:

I like the coat you featured here. I have been searching for a quality coat with adequate to substantial camel hair count for two purposes: warmth and endurance over time. Could you please lend thoughts on this? Thank you.

  20. TKieu says:

I ordered the coat and it arrived yesterday. It looks nice, but fits odd on me. Could it be the quilted lining? Perhaps you could do a post on camel hair coats next fall/winter? Thank you.

  21. Chinmayee says:

Wow they are so beautiful pieces.I loved this collection a lot.
