TRIPLE THREAT Oct 19, 2016

We all know that the velvet trend is in it to win it this season, and judging by the fact that I just ordered these velvet pumps, these velvet pumps, this velvet blazer and this velvet dress… I think you can safely say that I’m on board.  To make matters worse, I also just discovered this beauty and am struggling to fathom a life without a perfect navy velvet boyfriend blazer.

Note to self: Online shopping after more than 48 hours of no sleep quickly results in breached credit card limits followed by the arrival of obscene quantities of velvet paraphernalia.

In my defense (and as evidenced on snapchat), we were given less than 24 hours notice by our moving company that we had to be ready to move yesterday.  (Not joking.  Long story.)  So after pulling an all-nighter, canceling my entire workday, packing up our entire place and then watching a six-foot-five gentleman with hands the size of my head casually throw a box containing all of my wedding china over his shoulder and careen out of my apartment, a little R&R in the form of retail therapy was in order.  Quite frankly, I think the use of my remaining faculties to focus on velvet frippery instead of the crystal stemware that is likely shattered into a million pieces at the bottom of a moving truck somewhere in rural Nebraska is an excellent—nay—highly evolved use of dwindling faculties.  Kind of.

While our belongings are already eastbound, Rich and I don’t actually move back to NYC until November 1st.  Ipso facto, I have a solid two weeks to distract myself from contemplating the sorry state of our most fragile valuables.  So what better way to commence Operation Distraction than to begin planning out the infinite ways in which I can wear my new burgundy velvet pumps?

As discussed in this post featuring my favorite velvet midi skirt, the trend can be worn in a million different ways—even in the office!  True to Triple Threat fashion, below I’ve sketched out three of my favorite ways to sport these burgundy velvet pumps from workweek to weekend.  Lemme know what you think!

Thank you so much for such an inspiring post! Lately I`m a kind of obsessed with everything velvet. For me it`s so chic and elegant, trendy but it also makes me think about old renaissance italian ball gowns! It`s fascinating material! I just love it and can’t stop buying more and more velvet shoes, boots, bags and clothes. Your triple threat helped me to pull the trigger and invest in a pair of burgundy velvet pumps, now I`m 100 % convinced that it`s the best choice as I`ll be able to wear them with so many colors and textures and for so many occasions! Have a lovely day and a good nap!

Mary, I also have seen the need for much velvet in my life and ordered the blue velvet dress at the top of your post. I ordered up a size since it looked pretty fitted. Usually a 2/XS I ordered a S. It zipped but it was too fitted for this 59 year old, old enough to be your mama. I was going to exchange for a M but they are sold out. I hope the size you ordered fits you perfectly. I loved the look of it and wish I could get my size, but it will be beautiful on you. Can’t wait to see a pic.
