Monthly Archives: March 2013
holiday Mar 29, 2013
For those of you getting away from the office to celebrate the holiday this weekend like us, we wish you a beautiful, happy, hope-filled Easter. But even if you don’t celebrate Easter, we encourage you to at least take it as an egg-scuse for more chocolate! (I’m sorry I really tried to stop myself but I just couldn’t.)
To finish off the week, we thought we’d share some Easter-inspired spring hope (and color!) inspiration. We feel that the message is universal, regardless of your activities this weekend, and we can’t wait to put these beautiful pastel shades to good use!

Monday Muse Mar 25, 2013
Given the March Madness upsets that destroyed our brackets over the weekend (especially the unspeakable loss of our beloved Hoyas) we are in desperate need of a real pick-me-up this Monday morning. So, the muse that’s chasing our Monday morning blues away today is the special exhibit at the Met entitled Impressionism, Fashion and Modernity. I fell in love with the collection last fall at the Musee D’Orsay in Paris and just had to go back for more when it made its triumphant arrival in NYC at the end of last month. The exhibit highlights the dynamic interplay between art and la mode while also offering the historical context (holla history nerds) of the many celebrated works.
While I’m not ready to stuff myself into a fourteen-inch corset (mostly because I’m a fan of breathing… and also the occasional bacon cheeseburger), the expertly curated collection of art and accompanying period costumes offers tons of great fashion inspiration. Among the jaw-dropping color combinations and style elements that I know will be incorporated into my wardrobe this spring is the dress depicted in the Bartholomé painting above. Black and white stripes with polka dots? It says 1881, but those trends sound pretty 2013 to me. Whether it’s the the emerald green dress (color of the year!) depicted by Monet in Camille, Manet’s depiction of the urban sophisticate’s black dress in The Parisienne, or the displayed quote taken from one of Degas’s notebooks (see below), the collection’s relevance is unquestionable.
The exhibit is here until May 27th and whether you’re in NYC and can hop over to the Met or not, you should check out the Met website for some of the highlights and fascinating tidbits about the dynamic relationship between life and art through the ages.

It’s Friday, everybody, and you know what that means. Yup, just one more day of dressing like a normal person. But, with a look like this little grayscale colorblock number that we’ve put together below, keeping it real Donna Karan-style isn’t so painful. It’s actually kind of awesome.
P.S. I’m aware that there are about 18 different Fifty Shades of Grey jokes you can make about this outfit. Keep it CLASSY, people.

Monday Muse Mar 18, 2013
Got a bad case of the Mondays? We know, we feel the pain too. But instead of wallowing in our woes of another weekend gone by, we like to find a little inspiration — fashion or otherwise — that helps us look forward to another week. And so we present our Monday Muse.
This week, it’s the dream outfit we’ve put together above. It may be slightly out of budget at the moment, but check out that color combination. Somehow it makes this Monday morning a little less bleak.
What’s your Monday Muse? A song, a funny article, maybe a beautiful photo you took over the weekend. Whatever it is that helped you get out of bed and into the office this morning — fashion or not — we’re dying to know. Share it with us in the comments below!
(Ok sorry, didn’t mean to have a Shel Silverstein rhyming moment there at the end. It just happened…)
